Anyone else look up campaign contributions by your children's teachers, friends' parents,...

I do not even know one can search all these information on internet, lol

I doubt any of your kids' teachers have the disposable income to make campaign donations. Most people don't.

You'd be a perfect East German citizen in the 1950's.

No I do not. But this is why I stopped making political contributions.

The only person I have ever looked up is one of my billionaire clients because I was working really hard on some stuff for them and I was curious. But it would never occur to me to look this up for any of the people you listed.

I look up federal, state, and local campaign contributions to get an idea of their politics and what kind of people they are since I think people tend to support candidates who are most similar to themselves. I also make a mental note of people who donate to specific candidates vs PACs and political parties. To me, donating to PACs and parties is for the single brain celled, and I often observe that these people are louder with their opinions while being less informed and less intelligent overall.

My spouse says ignorance is bliss in this regard.

What does the DCUM hivemind think? Am I a weirdo for doing this?

The fact that you have the time and mental energy to dedicate to this is very strange to me.

You can donate to PACs to get around this, sort of. Some are not focused on a particular candidate but rather some issue.

Yeah, but if you do this, OP will think you only have one brain cell, so...

I’ll go as far to say that I think OP is sick.

How's how's the price of real estate in the same category as who someone wants to choose to have political power over your child?

What's someone pays for a house has absolutely no effect on my kid. Who is in power has an of effect on my kid. Why would you want someone who supports the anti- science party as your kids a science teacher for example.

Fine but what are you actually doing with that information? Moving school zones? Changing to private school? And you won't let your kid play U6 soccer from someone who once donated to a Republican candidate?

Maybe spend some more time working on dealing with people who don't agree with you on every single thing than trying to structure your life so that you only interact with people who align with you.

I don’t know. I am pretty liberal and my kids go to Catholic school in the Arlington diocese. So fairly conservative. I am certain I do not agree with some of the teachers’ political views. So long as the teachers are teaching the curriculum and not going off topic about nonsense, I don’t really care what his or her beliefs are. Not really my business. If the science teacher taught anti-science stuff, I would complain. If the teacher believes it herself and keeps quiet, who cares.

Anyway, yes, I absolutely do this.

I was born and raised here and would never think to do this. I truly don’t care about where people donate their personal funds and respect the rights of people to be different and share different likes and dislikes than I do.

I did during the 2020 run up.

But, I think it's simpleminded for you to judge all PACs as equal. However, if you want to believe I'm single brain celled for donating to Emily's List, I'm okay with that.

I've never donated to a political campaign, so it doesn't cross my mind that other average income people would either.

I just searched my (fairly uncommon) name and multiple donations appeared from someone with my same name, so how do you even know you have the right person?

I'm 10:52 and I only looked up some friends and influencers, didn't care about teachers or friend's of my parents.

I did this just now and basically no one I know donates to anything. My husband donates to the PAC he works for, but that's it.
