Anyone else look up campaign contributions by your children's teachers, friends' parents,...

I just searched my (fairly uncommon) name and multiple donations appeared from someone with my same name, so how do you even know you have the right person?

It says place of employment and/or state. How did you look this up and not this???

It all says not employed and Virginia. I just looked up a half dozen names and they all said not employed, even people i know are employed.

op: it seems that this practice is coming from a place of wondering if you can trust these individuals or possibly how much to weigh their opinion/actions as it regards to your children. Did I get that right?

I only do this if I"m pissed at somebody or looking to hire them.

It absoluteky sucks that this country has gotten to the point that politics is all-consuming for so many people.

I say that as a 35-year DMV resident who worked in politics directly in the 90s and indirectly ever since.

I will admit that I have been curious and looked up a few people in my life. Over the past ten years, I've checked on the donations of maybe two or three people.

For the most part, I don't care to know. I know the values of those close to me. For anyone else, like colleagues, teachers, and neighbors, I don't have control to change my affiliation with them or the need to interact with them. The less I know the better.

OP is part of the problem.

You're a weirdo.

So you only associate with people who agree with you? Life must be pretty boring by not having much diversity in anything you do.

You are just the other side of the coin of the people you don't want to be like. It's ok to have friends and teachers, and coaches with varied opinions.

Doing this never even occurred to me until I saw the title of this thread.

No idea how to even do this

You are a disgusting piece of shit OP

I have taught AP US Government for a long time and my students love doing this. I don’t think it is normal for an adult. What are the next steps? Gossiping that the teacher donated to Trump?

No, this is bizarre behavior OP. Do you also randomly go on the case search website and look up people you know?

I look up federal, state, and local campaign contributions to get an idea of their politics and what kind of people they are since I think people tend to support candidates who are most similar to themselves. I also make a mental note of people who donate to specific candidates vs PACs and political parties. To me, donating to PACs and parties is for the single brain celled, and I often observe that these people are louder with their opinions while being less informed and less intelligent overall.

My spouse says ignorance is bliss in this regard.

What does the DCUM hivemind think? Am I a weirdo for doing this?

Never did this at all. I know my close friends politics because we talk. I avoid Maga hat people but, otherwise don't do any sleuthing. Seems a bit strange
