Anyone else look up campaign contributions by your children's teachers, friends' parents,...

Anonymous
coaches, instructors, school administrators, basically anyone who interacts with my children. I look up federal, state, and local campaign contributions to get an idea of their politics and what kind of people they are since I think people tend to support candidates who are most similar to themselves. I also make a mental note of people who donate to specific candidates vs PACs and political parties. To me, donating to PACs and parties is for the single brain celled, and I often observe that these people are louder with their opinions while being less informed and less intelligent overall.

My spouse says ignorance is bliss in this regard.

What does the DCUM hivemind think? Am I a weirdo for doing this?

Those aren't things I care to know. There's nothing I can do about them.

Sounds weird to me. I have a relative who is a minor politician and I give to his campaign because we're related, even though I dont' agree with his politics entirely.

Then with local candidates, I may give because of one specific issue (stance on datacenter expansion; school funding) even if I dont' agree with them on other areas.

Do you also stalk around to see what place of worship they attend?

Or how much they paid for their homes?

Hard agree.

I don’t have time for that kind of snooping. It also comes across a bit judgmental, drawing conclusions about people based on limited knowledge.

I don't donate because I don't want people like OP to look me up and assume things about me. In fact, there are politicians I would like to donate to, but don't dare in this climate of hate.

I feel the same. It's not worth it.

You can donate to PACs to get around this, sort of. Some are not focused on a particular candidate but rather some issue.

Your spouse is normal can’t say the same about you

Yes, you are a weirdo.

What is the point of knowing how the school administrator donates - are you going to pull your kid out of school over it? Going to quit the team because you think the coach is "single brain celled"? This is a waste of time.

This behavior is flat out crazy. I can’t imagine having nothing better with your time and being nosy enough to contemplate this. It seems stalkerish. I’m guessing you’re the type of person who also looks up what people paid for their house.

I’ll go as far to say that I think OP is sick.

Oh my goodness, OP.

Do you ever tell people that you do this to them? Why not? What do you think they would think?

+1

OP makes too many judgments and they are based on very little.

Yes, OP. It is weird you do this. Sounds like anxiety.
