Anyone else look up campaign contributions by your children's teachers, friends' parents,...

I believe in the right to have political ideologies somewhat akin to religious rights, b so I don't really care about campaign contributions

No. I have a life.

No, that’s crazy.

You’d be a perfect little soldier in Nazi Germany or Mao’s China.

It's strange that in the US this info is public and I believe it does stop people from donating.

I look up federal, state, and local campaign contributions to get an idea of their politics and what kind of people they are since I think people tend to support candidates who are most similar to themselves. I also make a mental note of people who donate to specific candidates vs PACs and political parties. To me, donating to PACs and parties is for the single brain celled, and I often observe that these people are louder with their opinions while being less informed and less intelligent overall.

My spouse says ignorance is bliss in this regard.

What does the DCUM hivemind think? Am I a weirdo for doing this?

Yes. I think you are kind of a weirdo for immediately online stalking pretty much everyone you meet. Do you also look at religious affiliation, job status, the zestimate for their house, their spouse’s information? I also think people can’t be reduced to a few political donations.

FWIW, many companies with PACs basically shut you out of all the interesting candidate talks and news updates if you don’t donate and actively encourage donations. I have not donated to a corporate PAC but i wouldn’t judge someone who had.

Whoa, I thought I was a pretty insane internet stalker, but this puts me to shame, OP. I've never thought to do that in a million years.

You can get all that info elsewhere. PACs waste so much money on overhead it's ridiculous. And political parties are basically jobs programs. If you're donating to anything other than an actual candidate or ballot measure, you're wasting money.

I’m so shocked by these responses. I think these people must not be from DC. It’s one of the annoying things about having people not from DC on DC urban moms.

Anyway, yes, I absolutely do this.

I’m from DC and don’t do this.

People are far more than their contributions. What’s this info going to do for me? It’s just one data point that, ultimately, tells me very little.

One thing I can’t stand about this region: the judgment and the reliance on stereotypes

Different poster here:
You’re a bad person if you donate to a bad person (see: Ken Paxton and Donald Trump).

Just own it.

I’ll go as far to say that I think OP is sick.

How's how's the price of real estate in the same category as who someone wants to choose to have political power over your child?

What's someone pays for a house has absolutely no effect on my kid. Who is in power has an of effect on my kid. Why would you want someone who supports the anti- science party as your kids a science teacher for example.

What's the end game here? Do you want to get the teacher fired? Or your kid moved to a different class? This is a serious question.
