Why is everyone at SR leaving?

Are the schedule changes for MS only or do they apply for HS as well? The 8 day schedule was fantastic for DD and something that attracted us to the school.

45 min classes, less study halls, no 8th grade confirmation classes. It’s bad when the students and faculty BOTH agree about what a terrible change it is. A lot of families feel blindsided by this because we got an email on April 30 with no clarity about what was changing. I wasn’t at the meeting but heard it went off the rails for over two hours.

Are any of the parents in favor of the changes? Given my DD’s insane sports schedule (same for other kids) we kind of need those study halls…. I also don’t like trying to shorty the class periods. Can parents get a petition together to change it? I mean what was so bad about the 8 day cycle?!? It was strange at first but once we got used it, I thought it was great!

Why don’t you ask the parents in your class? Better yet why don’t you get a petition together?

I am a parent in the US and this is the first I have heard about a schedule change, so unless they plan to stagger the changes, US will remain as is.ll

I believe they are instituting a "block" schedule in the middle school, which is what they have had in the upper school for several years.

The new MS head is fairly unresponsive, inarticulate, and dismissive. And she doesn't seem to have a plan. She could at least learn the kids' name.

Want the old div director back. Really. My dd misses her too.

You can hire a private tutor to homeschool your child around their sports schedule. If they are nationally ranked, you would already be doing it. These schools are not babysitters.

This is really not a helpful reply to my comment. I’m not suggesting the school is a babysitter in the least. My kiddo is there for an education. But changing the schedule gives the girls fewer study halls for getting work done. That will make the juggling act that much harder for all families. My DD is worried about it and it sounds like other parents are as well.

Wait, so what is changing? Does the MS already have the block schedule and now moving away from it? We are in the US and haven't heard anything about changes to the schedule.

I think it’s just the MS and not US. We previously had an 8 day block schedule and they are moving to 5 days and shortening some classes. It also changes the amount of study halls the girls get for MS. I thought this year was great so not sure why the change is needed.

The list of teachers leaving was shared with the community through their weekly communication. A handful were planned retirements.

Our daughter loved her first year at SR in the US, and she attended an ADW K-8 previously. There are great kids that participate in sports and the arts, and the school offers academic rigor as well. She was accepted into each of the 3 high schools that we considered, and we've been happy with our decision to choose SR. I believe that in addition to retirements, some faculty departures are due to geographic relocations.

I am a new parent with a daughter starting in the fall and we also saw the list of departures in the weekly communication
