Why is everyone at SR leaving?

24 faculty leaving this year. This can’t be normal.

Wow! Is there a new head of school? What is triggering this? Where are they all going?

What is SR?

The school is not what it use to be and I think people are sick of it.

So everyone at Stone Ridge and everyone at Holton Arms is leaving. Got it.

Transfer portal has changed the game.

Best comment! This made me smile. I guess it is the NIL money.

Maybe they’ve all been fired to make room for the Holton transplants haha

Apparently it’s normal because this is like the third or fourth thread in the last couple months and the second in just the last few days on “why are so many teachers leaving X school?”

Same question, different school, common denominator is DMV kids and parents. You heard it here first.

My dd had wanted to apply but for anyone involved in ISL lacrosse, I’d never even let my dd apply to a school that tolerates a coach with that behavior. I’m sure a SR booster will come on and say I’m picking on her bc she’s trying to juggle young kids or whatever but no. I’m referring to the consistently abusive behavior that the whole admin is aware of but does nothing about. That aspect of the school almost seems to be condoned abuse.

A lot of people are unhappy. The beloved Assistant principal in the US is leaving and that’s a true sign of the shape of that division. It will be a huge loss for the community.

The MS head is a poor leader and hasn’t even attempted to build connection within community (faculty, parents and the most important part, students). There is no comparison to the previous MS head in the sense of leadership, care, and grace. From the meeting she had with middle school parents regarding the new schedule, she’s made it clear what partnership would look like with her. We are so disappointed for our girls. The only thing of strength to come out of the US is athletics because it sure isn’t academics. The curriculum hasn’t evolved to reflect a college prep program worth the price.

The HOS is not a good leader and can’t do a single communication or speech without crying. She is disconnected with what is happening with her faculty and tries to normalize that the amount of people that flee each year is typical. Compared to other schools in the area, they are an outlier with departures. The SR of today is a true fall from grace from a few years ago. The HOS equates being present at events for caring about the school and its people and it’s evident that she could not care less.

There are a few recent hires that give me hope that some good changes will take place to support the girls and faculty. If the current regime doesn’t see the writing on the wall, the future there is bleak.

More than almost any other school, SR is sports obsessed. The Lacrosse team is objectively excellent and multiple girls play at top schools. So the school turns a blind eye because it prioritizes sports above all else.

From someone who has been a part of the SR community for decades: 100% agree with every word of this post. I hope it is not deleted by the moderator. Current MS head: dismissive, imperious, and clearly dislikes children. Current HoS: emotionally dysregulated, unfocused, and narcissistic. Current Admissions Director: crass and . . . well, a lost cause. And yes: the departing Asst HoUS has been a gem and a steadfast proponent of the G&C of SH education. What a loss.

Truly, -- and especially given the significant faculty turnover this year -- I hope the Trustees are paying attention. The fish rots from the head. The trend is worrisome.
