The comparison is W&L and W&M not UVA. |
And W&L offers significant financial aid. It was less than UVA for us. |

For class of 2030, William & Mary (yes, I mean W&M, not W&L) reports slightly higher test scores than UVA. Just be aware that their student bodies are of equal caliber, despite UVA's lower acceptance rate. W&M is a more self-selecting group (and they don't have engineering).
Middle 50% SAT and ACT: W&M: 1420-1520, 33-35 UVA: 1380-1500, 32-35 |
Add W&L if you can - interested in all three |
Have you visited? It has changed a lot in the last few decades. It’s coed now, for one thing. FWIW I know an alum from there who is AA and has said good things about their experience. |
Well, we’re a NoVA family whose DD applied to only state publics, seven in all, and ended up choosing JMU. We couldn’t be happier about her decision. She had lots of good options. |
Is her name Candace? |
I don't think either one would release final stats until fall. |
W&L is Washington and Lee. Not W&M, William and Mary. #reading comprehension |
Yes, W&L is named for a (really the) Confederate general and slave owner (through his wife) and also a slave owner. UVA was founded by slave owners. W&M graduated the primary slave owner who founded UVA and also one of the other slave owning founders of UVA. James Madison University, George Mason University, and Mary Washington University were named for slave owners. Welcome to Virginia history. |
It would require reading just past the "W&" to distinguish the two schools. That is a lot to ask. |
| Washington and Lee makes UVA blush. Seriously. |
| W&L is gross and fratty and for creepy entitled rich boys. All they do is drink there. |
Same for UVA. W&L is just harder to get into. |
W&L is also older and has a much, much higher endowment per student than UVA. |
