W&L is the most selective college in VA. Even UVA is easier to get in. |
For foreigners, sure. W&L gets a ton of applications from foreign students and admits almost none of them. So if you’re an international student, W&L is a harder admit. For Americans, UVA is more selective. |
And it costs twice as much. |
I’ve always heard it was harder to get into William and Mary. |
The public schools publish their stats. Did you ever think to double check? |
| NoVA parents refuse to even consider most of the state schools but then whine about having to pay for OOS tuition. |
False. W&M is $44,884 for in-state. UVA $42,000 |
Not true. In all but three categories of nine UVA picks higher stats kids. From SCHEV in order of GPA, ACT and SAT: UVA gpa 4.5 4.6 4.3; 35 33 32; 1510, 1470, 1410. W&M: 4.51, 4.34, 4.16; 34 33 32; and 1520, 1450, 1390 |
The comparison was UVA vs W&L, not W&M. W&L is private, COA $90k |
Well, I haven’t and I was a UVA Dad. It’s a myth created by the parents of kids who didn’t get in or weren’t even contenders (like one of my children) so an application didn’t make sense. All of the parents and students I met over those four years were delightful and down to earth. Remember this is a public university - it’s not like an uber private in the NE enrolling kids from tony, expensive privates. Sure, there may be an outlier here or there but my DC and our family never met them. Would you say the same about other great publics like UCLA and Michigan? No, I didn’t think so. |
Why would someone compare a private to a public? That makes no sense … |
Bitter much? Not true in my experience |
False. See stats above. It’s more difficult to get into UVA. |
