As a parent living in NOVA this is actually accurate 🤣🤣

Potomac is a lot of new money as well compared to the other privates.

OP back - I’m not talking about wearing school clothes at sporting events. I’m talking about wearing the clothes everywhere out and about in McLean. But really it’s the constantly talking about Potomac - like I said it has happened many times that I’m across the playground or on the other side of a restaurant and I hear Potomac Potomac Potomac.

I know some very nice down to earth Potomac parents who don’t do this but there seems to be a sizable number who do and they are annoying.

Now let’s let this thread die so it doesn’t get meaner! I’ve made my point and so have the defenders.

Why do you need to mention the name of your kids school so much and so loudly? I will be across the playground and hear them chattering Potomac this, Potomac that. This happens all the time. And I constantly see adults wearing Potomac hats and clothing.

We never hear little Langley parents or parents from the local publics doing this. I used to live in DC near AU and never heard people out living their lives talking about the Cathedral schools. I have many friends with kids at Holton, Landon, Prep, Gonzaga, Sidwell, STA, GDS, etc. and literally never seen an adult wearing any form of clothing for one of those schools.

So long way of asking .... what is wrong with these parents? Do they have nothing better going on in their lives? It has certainly turned me off from ever applying my kids.

Good.

We like POTOMAC.

My kids were at other schools in DC and I am sure I talked about their school in every conversation while I was in the thick of it. It was our whole world at that time.

Biggest proof this wasn't a troll post! Let's all just breathe that we aired our grievances and move on to the feats of strength!

Merry Festivus everyone!

If you want it to die, OP, you will stop bumping it. But you don’t.

Isn’t it the only school in McLean?

There is Madeira, Langley, McLean, and Basis. Potomac is usually ranked after Basis and Madiera, but ahead of McLean and Langley

Potomac is usually ranked after Sidwell, NCS,STA, GDA, Maret. No one cares about Madeira or Langley or McLean. Say your kids don’t go to a dependent school in the DMV without saying that. Lol.

That is something only a Potomac parent would say actually... because DC independent parents don't consider Potomac against Sidwell, STA/NCS Maret and GDS, they continue down the list with DC schools: WIS, SJC, Georgetown Visitation, Burke, Field School etc.

This is well known in the private school set. Potomac is big fish, small pond on the Virginia and feels the need to flaunt for their own reasons.

The rest of us realize that our schools give our children advantages for the reasons we picked them, little to none have to do with status.

At the recent multi-school track meet it was just another eye roll as the Potomac parent felt the need to shout out their school name with every runner, while the rest of us clapped for each runner that came across.

This is the clutch of it. Most parents support all kids getting the best education for them... when people start looking down their noses at kids because their school isn't flexing in the right way, we all tend to side eye...

You're full of it.
McLean and Langley are public schools, they're not ranked with private schools.
