With this impressive profile, you’ll get into an amazing college! |
Do you mind sharing his offers? |
That's not true. My coach of 30+ years says far more athletes that he endorses get rejected than accepted. No where near 30% |
| Parent of EA admitted student here. It is very coach dependent at MIT. The coaches who have luck with recruits have done extensive pre-screening, including ensuring highest level course rigor, minimum SAT/ACT 1530+/35, independent research, and top grades earned in BC Calculus or Physics Mechanics by time of application (if your school offers). Entire scores for EVERY APs/SAT/ACT taken must also be submitted to MIT too, regardless of whether you want to superscore or don't like it. When my child applied, coach said don't even mention the sport on application. Use the space to discuss research or other significant academic/intellectual/musical accomplishments. I know process can be demoralizing but there are so many great research schools out there so try not to focus on just one school. |
| Waitlisted people, where do they go? |
Waitlist at Harvey Mudd moves so be sure to express interest. |
depends on sport at MIT |
| MIT really seems impossible. My kid was accepted to one of HYPS in the early round - has the typical high stats and published research, but thought their chances for MIT were super low so they didn’t apply. |
It's hard to explain the demographics if it is purely merit. |
It's not a huge boost, but it's a tip and with so many ultraqualified applicants, that tip can determine who gets in. |
My sport and coach is one of the only division 1 sports. He's a decorated athlete and professor, highly respected. Our team is highly decorated and we just won an alumni donation challenge like we do most years. If it isn't happening for my sport, it's not happening for the others either. |
No one gets in unless qualified. No one. Coaches know ther hands are tied and tell athletes that: no guarantees, no true prereads, no commitments, and if you want to get security, we understand but go elsewhere. They also tell students they will want a 1580 sat with a minimum 790 in math. |

my daughter got in largely bcs of track and field. I think water polo also strongly recruits. you can basically look at where MIT has won their division and figure out it's not all luck. they recruit.
she was otherwise a strong candidate, but 1540 SAT and no major awards. did have a paid summer job which MIT values more than people realize and is URM. Also female is easier. |
This is wildly incorrect. Recruited athletes need the academics but if they’re recruited they don’t need any other ECs and their chances of admission are 50-65% so about 20x the typical candidate. My kid was a recruited athlete at MIT. |
This is incorrect |
