DD telling all kinds of stories about her chemistry teacher that can’t possibly be true

One of my kid’s teachers was this way, and if got worse not better (he’s in prison now for predation). There was a lot of skepticism among the adults about students’ claims early on.

PP - worth noting that early on his behavior wasn’t predatory, it was just odd. Nothing you can put a finger on, just kind of head scratching. In retrospect it was like he was shaking loose all sorts of random norms first, so people’s guards would be down. Maybe that’s part of the grooming process, I really don’t know.

I just saw a news article about a Kindergarten teacher getting fired for doing cocaine in her classroom bathroom, but OK, your daughter is a liar.

Teachers have been filed for molesting and having inappropriate sexual contact with their minor students, but OK, your daughter is a liar.

Teachers have been fired for being drunk while teaching, but OK, your daughter is a liar.

Teachers have been fired for saying the n-word and hurling racial slurs in classrooms, but OK, your daughter is a liar.

All of these instances and much more are Google-able, and you can read about them on reputable news sources. You can see court documents, if you like. But OK, your daughter is a liar.

I hate parents like you.

DP.

So are you saying that children always speak the truth and that teachers are always inappropriate felons?

Try backing that one up. You like Google. Find us your proof.

Ha. I would do that too. Do you know how many kids forget that???

We all had to recite in gregorian chant "what thou doest unto one side of the equation, thou must doest unto the other."
Awesome teacher.

Haha. I had a teacher who stalked up and down desks and occasionally slammed a metal yardstick onto a desk for emphasis. We all loved him and we paid attention so no hands got whacked.

My AP physics teacher started every day by telling us all that we probably shouldn't even bother trying in his class because American education had gone downhill and we could barely read or write and were just going to wind up working at McDonalds. He also played some kind of science radio show every Friday and then tore the presenter apart in the most sarcastic terms imaginable. We found him hilarious and he was one of the most popular teachers in the science department.

Obviously these were high school - high school teachers can be more idiosyncratic. Middle and elementary school teachers can't, their students would take them literally.

I’m not the person you’re quoting, but the statistics on children falsely reporting abusive behavior are easily available— it’s extremely rare.

I would be skeptical to believe a teen saying a teacher was “a monster” (or similar exaggeration) but I would *always* believe a child who reported inappropriate behavior— report it, and let it be carefully looked into.

But DCUM, who has no knowledge of the student or the teacher, decided to condemn the teacher anyway. Because that’s how we roll here, right?

Imagine being a teacher these days, knowing that parents quickly and gleefully jump on the teacher-take down train.

Innocent until proven guilty, unless you’re a teacher, that is.

Sorry the OP don't sound too bright and these all sound like things an unhinged HS teacher might say.

My kid's bio teacher says stuff like this so maybe it is a science dept thing!

She alleges that this teacher tells the class details about her son’s AI boyfriend, reveals personal details about various students’ 504 plans for all to hear, and once sang about the Epstein files (?). Obviously these are false, but I don’t think they’re harmless lies. I think they’re harmful and mean, and some are about fireable offenses, I think. How to shut down the lying?

Instead of saying “obviously these are false”, ask your DD if she needs help from you or if she just wants you to listen.

What child would wake up in the morning and even THINK about a teacher’s son’s AI boyfriend, or other students 504 plans? The Epstein thing might be in the teen zeitgiest enough for that to be twisted or fabricated but…really? A teen’s just like, “you know what I’m going to lie to my mom about today?” And it’s THAT stuff?

Mark my words, OP. Here is you, 20 years in the future:

“My daughter never calls.”
“When we do talk, my daughter never tells me what’s going on.”
“My daughter’s getting married, and I feel like I barely know this person. They keep me at arm’s length.”
“I don’t know much about her job—she doesn’t tell me anything.”
“She doesn’t want me to visit right after the baby’s born. She wants me to wait to visit until ‘they’re ready for guests.’”

This is what happens when parents don’t listen to their kids, and don’t give their kids due consideration. If you don’t have a listening ear now, you won’t be trusted later.

This is your future. This is your warning.

Or the OP has listened to their child and knows their kid has a tendency to lie, which was evident in the first post of this thread.

So let me offer another future: one in which you believe every little thing that comes out of your child’s mouth. Twenty years from now, you may be wondering why your children don’t respect you as they see you as so easily manipulated.

OP, the mistake you made was going against the DCUM narrative: teachers are always wrong and children are always angels. I’m sorry you got the harsh criticism you did, but don’t take it too personally.

OP never came back so guess this was a troll!

The only one that’s a real concern is the 504 part. Ask her for specific examples.

The others could just be humor. I mean they are in high school, they know about the Epstein files and I’m not sure the issue with the AI boyfriend unless this means something I’m not aware of. A little unprofessional but some teachers seem to try to connect this way I guess.

It's true. My kids have a couple teachers who are inappropriate. They use their students as if they're a therapist or journal.

my kids teacher discussed her frustration with her 504 in front of a full classroom. another teacher shared her screen where all the kids in the class who has accommodations was displayed on the board.
