Mark my words, OP. Here is you, 20 years in the future: “My daughter never calls.” “When we do talk, my daughter never tells me what’s going on.” “My daughter’s getting married, and I feel like I barely know this person. They keep me at arm’s length.” “I don’t know much about her job—she doesn’t tell me anything.” “She doesn’t want me to visit right after the baby’s born. She wants me to wait to visit until ‘they’re ready for guests.’” This is what happens when parents don’t listen to their kids, and don’t give their kids due consideration. If you don’t have a listening ear now, you won’t be trusted later. This is your future. This is your warning.
Or the OP has listened to their child and knows their kid has a tendency to lie, which was evident in the first post of this thread. So let me offer another future: one in which you believe every little thing that comes out of your child’s mouth. Twenty years from now, you may be wondering why your children don’t respect you as they see you as so easily manipulated. OP, the mistake you made was going against the DCUM narrative: teachers are always wrong and children are always angels. I’m sorry you got the harsh criticism you did, but don’t take it too personally.
