How often do you communicate with your child in college?

May I ask what is being discussed daily? I am not asking in a rude way at all.

Us too.
Usually via text. Sometimes it's a funny meme, a pic of the pet, a random question, snow picture, whatever.

Phone calls for when an actual conversation is needed (housing next year, more money, travel logistics, stuff going on).

Sure. Why not? My kid leads it. For the most part, we talk when she calls, although I may text her here and there unprompted. She confides in me. We talk about boys. We talk about her friends, her classes, etc. Why would I limit her? That feels so wrong. We are close. What is wrong with that?

I was not close with my parents so I understand those who don’t talk often and don’t share.

Neither one is right or wrong, they are just different family dynamics.

Did you not talk to your kid daily prior to them leaving for college? Your kid is still part of your immediate family, no?

My son responds in one word answers or “kk” or my fave, the emoji to my random messages during a week. Very similar to when he lived with us.

Otherwise, he communicates very well with Venmo requests, haha!

Almost daily

Certainly texting basically daily. Phone call maybe twice a week.

Text 2 or 3 times a week. Phone call about every 10 days.

Came home Fall Weekend and thanksgiving.

About 5 hours away.

Freshman son, text 2x/week, call 1, maybe 2x/week. He is also calling grandparents and texting siblings who are still at home.

My kid:
Show she watched, discussion topic in class, meal she ate (omg x was soooo good), i have a test tmrow in x (and related info (been studying in the library, taking a break soon, etc), trying a dark spin class later, calling you in 5 (laundry day!), can you order me a new x, the x-club is going out to x place today), I’ll send a meme or she will, I’ll send a local or national news article and she’ll respond (even just abt all the school delays last week), countdown to upcoming trip, etc.

Exact same for us. I am happy that they want to confide in me and I want to be of support. And I told my mom how often I communicate with my girls and she was horrified. My parents almost never called me when I was in college so I am

We don't talk that often but we exchange texts quite frequently, multiple times per week. Usually just funny exchanges, or practical info.

Talk once a week. Randomly texting throughout the week. DD texts a lot more than DS.
