You do know there is already a Herndon High School? Wouldn't it make sense to name this school after its own area--the one that is less than a mile from the Oak Hill Post Office? |
| Oak Hill would be the obvious name just like a traditional HS would be the obvious use. |
| As Aviation HS south of Seattle is the likely inspiration, the superintendent should be happy with "Skyview HS" which is a more inclusive name as it includes aviation, space, aeronautics, and metaphorically speaking, AI and future technologies in general. While it will be a neighborhood high school, the superintendent will still get her specialty aviation/STEM/AI programs installed in there. The name fits for better or worse. |
It is a silly, silly name that does not reflect the community it will serve. |
Ah yes, all those 20171 parents Rooted in Oakton. Still makes me laugh. |
Because Oakton HS is in Vienna and most students zoned there don’t have 22181 as a zip code? |
It's absurd. Herndon kids should not be at Oakton HS in Vienna, VA. |
The community it will served picked Skyview. Please go find something else to whine about. |
Only because Oak Hill and any other regional names weren't among the 10 choices. |
And, how do you know it was chosen by the community it will serve? Did all of the geographic area get an opportunity? We don't even know which community it will serve. And, that, Dr. Reid, is the problem. |
“It only lost because it didn’t win!” Puhlease. Move on. It’s going to be okay. |
Ummm there was an open and transparent process. Skyview and western were top 2. The students, you know the people the schools actually serve, picked Skyview. Google it. Or don’t. It doesn’t really matter. |
No. Actually Oak Hill was number 2 until Reid decided to choose which options could be voted on. Oak Hill was NOT included. As I recall, the selection did not include Oak Hill as an option. Why? The options were Skyview, Western, and a bunch of names of people to include a number of astronauts. There were no names that reflected the community area. That appears to have been Reid's decision. Why? |
No student poll really means anything here when it’s still up in the air as to who will end up attending the school. There’s a long tradition of community residents and the school board picking the name of a new school and the students actually slated to attend the school picking the mascot. But I guess we can ignore that since Reid desperately wants something with Space Camp connotations. |
Did you look at the list of names the community ACTUALLY wanted? #1= Western #2= Dulles #3= Sully #4= Oak Hill #5= Floris #6= McLearen Reid and the SB pulled "Skyview" and the names of the aviators and astronauts either out of thin air or from the bottom of the barrel of names the community suggested. Skyview might have gotten the second most votes from the random list Reid and the SB cultivated, but it was not a popular choice at all when the list the public wanted was published. You continuously stating the Skyview was the #2 choice when the list of choices was complete garbage is equivalent to asking the public who the best president has been, and the only choices given are Nixon, Trump 45, Harding, or Trump 47, and then you saying, "Trump got the second most votes for best president!" 🙄 Sure, when you completely skew and manipulate the survey, you get the results you want. The public did not want Skyview. |
