Those names were not among the 10 names Reid picked for the survey. Those ten names were all bad, with “Western” as the least moronic and the only acceptable choice. |
+1. 100% agree. Keep it community focused. |
Agree. |
| At the end of the day the name won’t matter that much but it’s crazy they didn’t go with Oak Hill. |
|
Yep. It was number 2 and didn't make Reid's list. The community chose it when they opened the post office. It was a vote. Makes no sense. |
I think that is because there is an Oak Hill ES. There are not too many schools with the same name for ES, MS, or HS. I can think of Herndon but that is it. |
No. That's not a valid argument. There are several "matching" names for ES and HS; see the list below. There is no "Oak Hill MS," so I'm not sure why you threw that in there, as it is irrelevant. Oakton ES & Oakton HS Herndon ES & Herndon HS West Springfield ES & West Springfield HS Centreville ES & Centreville HS Hayfield ES & Hayfield SS Close in name: Mount Vernon Woods ES & Mount Vernon HS |
I can’t understand why Reid would ever have had any input on the name other than providing results of community engagement. Just why should the board care what her two favorites are? |
Oak Hill is the name that makes the most sense and that is most meaningful to the community. It has historical relevance. Skyview is a ludicrous name, as are most of the other random names that made the final list, most of which had 0-2 votes in the original survey. |
Oh wow! I had no idea. Poor Francis Hazel Reid got the boot. |
Yeah, but "Skyview" sounds like something appropriate for a high school in Montana-- or Big Sky Country-- not for a suburban high school whose view of the sky is obstructed by trees and buildings, as well as light pollution. Skyview isn't associated with the airport. It's associated with rural areas with no light pollution or buildings over three stories tall. |
There is an Oakton ES and an Oakton HS There is Centreville ES and a Centreville HS There is Herndon ES, Herndon MS, and Herndon HS There is South County MS, South County HS (plus similarly named South Lakes HS) There is West Springfield ES ad West Springfield ES (plus North Springfield ES) There is also the very similarly named: Annandale Terrace ES and an Annandale HS Braddock ES and Lake Braddock HS Fairfax HS, Fairfax Villa ES, Fairview ES, Fairhill ES Forest Edge ES, Forestdale ES, Forestview ES Franklin MS, Franklin Sherman ES Greenbriar East and Greenbriar West ES Haycock ES, Hayfield Secondary Kings Glen ES, Kings Park ES Laurel Hill, Laurel Ridge ES Marshall Rd ES, Marshall HS Terra Center ES, TErraset ES Westbriar ES, Westfield HS, Westgate ES, Westlawn ES Woodburn ES, Woodlawn ES, Woodley Hills ES, Woodson HS |
| I still think they should have named it Rachel Carson HS since it is literally next door and will share grounds with Rachel Carson MS. |
And Carson was designed to become a secondary. |
Reid eliminated Oak Hill because using the place for the name makes it seem more like every other traditional school. She is still bitter about not getting that "look what I did" achievement of creating a new magnet. She is trying to give it a special name and pretend having a few classes as a pathway is the same thing. Desperate for some achievement to cling to when she finally gets fired for how terrible everything else has gone under her watch. |
