Daughter has slight (unintentional!) mustache; what to do?

This is such blonde white woman advice. My mom started taking me to get my upper lip and eyebrows threaded when I was 12. My daughter has lighter/less hair than I did at her age, but if/when she gets noticeable lip hair, I'll do the same for her. Be kind to your daughters and save them from embarrassment.

I can’t see my fine dark lip hair on the sides unless I shine my iPhone flashlight on it and get super close to the mirror or I see it in my visor mirror when getting blinded by the sun.

If you can't see it, other people can't see it either. Anyway, moms and daughters are different.

Not everyone has the same hair and skin tone as their kids? If mom is a fair blonde and DD has an Indian/Middle Eastern/Italian etc etc etc father this may be totally new to OP and no, she probably also doesn't have it.

+1
I'm fair with very dark hair, like my dad. My mom is a true blonde with almost no body hair, just tiny little blonde hairs. I was lucky that she was very empathetic and understanding about my unwanted hair and helped me bleach/shave it - she could have simply not cared or said there was nothing she could do to help. And we share none of the same traits as far as our coloring goes.

How odd

Not odd at all - there have been posters before who have said their moms weren't concerned/interested in helping them navigate this as they (the moms) didn't have the hair issue and weren't empathetic. Which is terrible. But hardly out of the ordinary.

Omg, are you insane???

Do not use a razor on her upper lip.

It will give eventually her stubble, a 5 o'clock shadow, and posdibly ingrown hair.

The only solutions are waxing or permanent hair removal.

No it won’t. I’ve been doing it for 30+ years with no issues. Stop spouting ignorance.

Yes it does.

I have a friend who swears by it but her shadow and stubble are noticeable.

has a very fine layer of hair on her upper lip. She is about to turn 15. I would like to help her but I’ve never had this issue myself and I’m not that good at beauty stuff. Can somebody tell me what to do as specifically as possible? Bleach? Wax? At home? Where?

At 14 she needs to be taken to a dr to get her hormones checked. This is not normal.

It happens to millions of women.

YES!

You might not be able to see the stubble but everyone else can.

+1. I'm surprised at the comments for laser and waxing and threading. Laser, wax and thread require taking her somewhere, and it's very painful. Most of the cheap laser places are a temporary fix. Get her a Tinkle razor. I've been doing this for years and it works great, it's an old wive's tale that shaving makes hair grow in differently.

Waxing the upper lip is not at all painful

Says the person who has never struggle with facial hair.

Take care of it for her OP.

It is basic hygiene, just like shaving your pits and wearing deodorant.

Could you please link to what you use?

I believe it’s this one but any similar brand will do the job:

Tweezers. Plucking removes hair for a long time and eventually slows and stops growth since plucking root ball.

How do you know this is from shaving?

This is not true for most. My DD has used it for years and doesn’t get stubble. Women aren’t men. Their upper lip hair isn’t coarse- at least in the majority of women, even those with darker hair, the upper lip hair isn’t going to be coarse enough to create stubble look.

The responses here are crazy. You do not give your daughter a complex about hair of any kind unless she brings it up to you. Bringing it up to her means you think something is wrong with her.

I wish I could find something like this but much tinier to do the base of my nostrils - the part that shows. That is the worst for unwanted hair for me.

Nair makes a gentle depilatory cream for your face. Try that and then pluck any strays.

Waxing creates wrinkles around the mouth (particularly above the lip).
