Daughter has slight (unintentional!) mustache; what to do?

Sally Hanson wax strips are easy to use.

The strip itself is about the size of a regular band aid. I cut mine lengthwise in half because that’s the width of the hair on my face. Also, I am fairly skinned to the area appears red so I wax at night. A little ice or cream will take the redness away.

I have a home IPL which works great.

Those tiny tiny razor blades also work well for before the IPL.

Yet again, i am dumbfounded by the number of women on their forum who shave their upper lip, seem to think they are doing something more complicated than shaving, and seem to think this is a good solution for 50+ years.

Shave = visible stubble and reflections
Bleach = same level of obvious as dark hair

Answer is wax, pluck or laser. You could get a Tria laser for $500 or whatever it costs and do at home. That's about the same price 5-6 sessions would be for upper lip.

Omg, are you insane???

Do not use a razor on her upper lip.

It will give eventually her stubble, a 5 o'clock shadow, and posdibly ingrown hair.

The only solutions are waxing or permanent hair removal.

No it won’t. I’ve been doing it for 30+ years with no issues. Stop spouting ignorance.

Compare and contrast for us, PP! Which method keeps the hair away longer? threading or shaving?

I shave every couple of days. I prefer it to threading since you have to let the hair grow out a bit to thread.

If you like pain.

Dermaplaning is just shaving plus paying more.

And gives you stubble.

Don't do anything involving a razor OP

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. I used to wax but now I use a small tinkle razor. So much easier, quicker and pain-free!

I was your daughter in the 80s. My mom, who was a redhead with blonde body hair, told me to put hydrogen peroxide on a cotton ball and rub it over the hair. Did absolutely nothing.

One day a friend of hers was over and handed me a box of Jolen bleach. Thank god for that woman. I finally mustered up the courage to get it waxed at a salon in college. Waxing way better than bleaching but I would occasionally bleach between waxes. Then in my 30s a friend introduced me to Veet strips and those are the best. You warm them in your hands and pull. Over time the hair has gotten much lighter and finer.

Dark upper lip hair is different than the peach fuzz on cheeks and I wouldn't use any type of razor there.

has a very fine layer of hair on her upper lip. She is about to turn 15. I would like to help her but I’ve never had this issue myself and I’m not that good at beauty stuff. Can somebody tell me what to do as specifically as possible? Bleach? Wax? At home? Where?

At 14 she needs to be taken to a dr to get her hormones checked. This is not normal.

And please do not shave. It creates stubble. I have seen actual women in the Nova/DC area who clearly think shaving is the answer and they have stubble!!!! Wax or get laser.

I used to wax — both professional and at home and it hurt like hell. I now use a little electric razor every couple of days. There’s no stubble and it’s light. It doesn’t regrow thicker. All the myths you’ve heard are just that, myths. The little flawless touch razor is perfect

Of course it is. Those of us with fair skin and dark hair know all about this and it’s no fun, trust me. Mine started showing up around 12 and it’s been many years and countless hours of trying to get rid of it. Same with underarms, legs, etc. It wasn’t until I was about 40 that I finally had the means to do something permanent about it.

You obviously don’t have this issue or you would know how stupid it is to say “this is not normal.”

Anonymous wrote:I would start by bleaching it. You can buy bleach cream over the counter at most any drug store. You can always step it up to waxing, but I wouldn't start there.

Do not do this OP.

All this does is make the mustache blond.

Wax at a salon.
