You don't need fancy clothing. Basic winter jacket, hat (or jacket hood), gloves (or jacket pockets). Sweatshirt. Maybe a long sleeve shirt under that. You'll be fine waiting for the bus or walking to school. Those are all things people should be expected to have in this climate. Some people just don't like to be cold. And yes, you're likely to feel cold even wearing that. But if you look at what kids are wearing at the bus stop or while walking to school on a less cold day, it is pretty clear they're able to handle being cold for a little while. |
| I'm terrible. I don't wear a jacket at all in this weather because I'm literally only outside from the walk from my car into work. I can deal with 60 seconds of cold |
Sweet baby Jesus. Raised in Wisconsin and still have family there. Such pansies here. 9 degrees is when I start thinking about a coat. |
Then you get appropriate clothing. Ya'll act like the earth will spin off it's axis if it drops below freezing and your crotch goblins have to go to school |
+1. I usually just wear a hoodie until it gets before 20. Sometimes my office is cold, so that's convenient to have around instead of a jacket. |
| where are you from, OP? the Carolinas? Georgia? They aren't shutting down for cold with no precipitation |
Pretty sure it is just a bored SAHM that otherwise doesn't have anything else to do when school is open. |
| Hs kids walk up to two mikes. |
Really hoping those forecasts are wrong. It looks like Snowmageddon/Blizzard of 96 level stuff. |
Not true. I’m a thrifter. My kid has 2 winter coats from the thrift store. One is a snowboarding jacket ( can’t remember brand) and one is a Tommy Hilfiger. Both were less than $20. I’ve seen NF jackets in the mid $20s but with a 20% coupon the price comes back down. |
+1. And if you're not sure how to dress for weather like today you should learn. It gets cold here. Not that cold and not that often, but most winters have a few mornings like today. Learn to dress for it. |
| Well well well it did not close. Lock this ridiculous thread. |
Good thing we have that 1 snow day built in! Wouldn't want to anticipate stuff like this! |
| Global warming reversed. |
Also there are warm coats on Amazon starting at around $30-40. If you cannot buy or find a coat for your child in this area (which does have winter after all) then there are bigger issues than the cold. Also … it’s 20 degrees out not - 20! Everyone can just wear whatever regular winter coat they already have plus a hat and an extra layer underneath. |
