Those cases almost always had snow/ice from a storm a day or two before. Since I've had kids we haven't had a delay absent precipitation. At least, not that I can remember. |
No, those were ostensibly due to concerns with refreezing, not the cold itself. |
| Mcps should definitely delay if its going to be 5 with the wind chill. |
Dream on and buy your kids jackets and hats. |
| In 2014, we had a polar vortex. Temps were below 0 and the wind chill was something like -20. Meteorologists were warning that uncovered skin could develop frostbite in as little as 5-10 minutes. MCPS opened on time. Things have changed in the last 12 years, but I’d still be surprised if we had a delay due to these temps with no precipitation. |
| It seems like if there were going to be a temperature related call, they would have done so already (no reason to wait and see, presumably?). |
|
Schools have indoor recess if the wind chill/temp goes below 32. We had a delay a few years back when the wind chill was 2 at around 6:30 when my kid would've gone to the bus stop, and rose to a balmy 7 two hours later.
A delay for extreme cold is not unheard of, but it's not going to be for temps in the teens. |

Wear. A. Coat.
Jesus you pussies. |
It turns out you can wear jackets, hats, and gloves and still be outside in 0F temperatures. How do you think kids in Minnesota survive? |
To be fair some people around here aren’t used to those kind of temperatures or may not have appropriate clothing. |
A few months ago I got a brand new lands end puffer for myself at goodwill (normally $240) for $14.99. Kids coats are less than that. |
I don't think the PP is willing to shop at actual thrift stores. |
The government can't be in charge of everything. |
They should give off for the two week mark after everyone returned from winter break circulating whatever it is they caught over the break. Oh and to control whatever the skiers of MLk Jr weekend bring back from the slopes. |
| Next week looks promising for weather related closures… |
