we can't miss so many days

School is already closed Thursday and Friday of next week and there’s a 2 hour early release on Wednesday, so they’d be burning 2 full snow days and a fraction of a third at worst.

If schools are open 2 hours late on Wednesday there no early release ?
with 12 inches schools closed Monday and Tuesday,
If open Wednesday it will be 2 hour late.

Wednesday is an early release due to the end of the quarter. I don’t think there’s a protocol to cancel a scheduled early release due to a weather related 2 hour delay on the same day. They will cancel or open on time Wednesday (you know, pending an actual storm.)

However, since the two hour early release is already baked into the total required 990 instructional hours, if school were to close on Wednesday, it wouldn’t count as a full day against the snow day bank. They’d save 2 hours because the schools were supposed to be closed anyway.

+1 they would not have a 2 hr delay on an already scheduled early release day. They will just cancel school.

Or blame us, we ordered new snow gear which should mean it goes untouched.

Haha yup I just ordered snow boots, snow pants for one kid, and two of those foam toboggan type sleds. So now it will be a bust!

Where did you find a foam toboggan sled? My youngest broke her sled last year and has been asking for one. Couldn't find one around Christmas time!

I wouldn’t trust the apps until 48 hours out, so Thursday or even Friday depending if the snow starts Saturday or Sunday. But I’m seeing 5-8” Sunday on weather.com plus an additional 1” or so Saturday/Saturday night. The main problem for schools is it’s going to be incredibly cold, so the snow will have nowhere to go/no natural melting afterward.

Apple Weather: 2-3” on Saturday and 17-21” on Sunday (haha)

Accuweather: 5.6” on Saturday and 3.9” on Sunday

Weather Underground: 5-8 on Saturday and 3-5 Sunday plus an additional 1-3 overnight.

If we get 12+ NO school for the weel
8-12 Monday and Tuesday closed -Questionable on Wed because of the early release
5=8 Closed Monday- Questionable Tuesday we have to check the roads
<5 Closed Monday open on tuesday

I'm very curious to see how Reid will handle extended closures after a big snowstorm. So far she's proven to be less inclined to delay or cancel school in conditions that the old admin definitely would have. Three years ago I'd have said for certain that 12+ inches meant we'd be out all week, but I'm not sure sure now. I could see her reopening on Wednesday if enough streets (not necessarily all streets) are cleared.

Any significant snow and they’re going to close all week (M-W). The only way we aren’t closed all week is if the storm hits earlier, snow is done by mid day Sunday, and we only get around 5” or less. Then we’ll be closed Monday but have school Tues-Weds.

weather.com follows the models just like the apps. If you want a little more cautious and reliable, check the trend information the meterologists are giving out. They'll tell you what the scenarios are.

How much snow did we get January 2025 when school was closed for nearly the full week. Wasn’t it around 6 inches? Monday through Wednesday won’t get above freezing, but it’ll be sunny on Monday/Tuesday which will cause some refreeze in areas that don’t get a plow through.

I think Reid was only conservative with closures in December because the area gets most of its snow events in January/February.

The latest run of the GFS pulled the rug out from under the storm. But, the GFS has been off on its predictions so far. We shall see what the Euro/Euro AI says; it's been pretty good on predictions so far.
