Just like other countries now. Must prove you are healthy, able, solvent, skilled, educated, employable… to get a visa. Regardless of who or what is “pulling”’you in.

Then why call out these countries specifically? Why not just make this a condition for ALL countries?

Lots of bad agent countries right now, this list should absolutely exist and for good reasons.

Absolutely. We need to codify some of these actions so if a Democrat ever gets back in office, he/she cannot let the floodgates open again.

They figured over the 20 year wait, the elders would get old and then move to America for Medicaid, treatments, retirement and free childcare watching.

You are not even eligible for medicare unless you have 5 years of work history. They won't get a pension from social security without 10 years of work history. A 79 year old grandmother cannot just move here and collect all of these government benefits.

A 79 year grandmother would immediately be eligible for Medicaid coverage (free health insurance) in states like CA, MN, IL, NY, OR because the state subsidizes the immigrants for the 5 years wait.

The elderly immigrant is eligible for Supplemental Social Security if aged 65+ which is a cash payment of up to $994. Some states don't make elderly immigrants wait and provide cash payments such as CA - The California Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI) is a cash assistance program for non-citizens who are either aged, blind or disabled who do not qualify for SSI solely due to immigration status.

Let's say you are a minimum wage worker who retires at 65. The estimated payment according to a GOV calculator for regular social security is $1,186. BUT this person would have to pay Medicare for Part B coverage. Gov website indicates For someone who retired at 65 with an annual income of $45,000, your Medicare costs (based on 2026 figures) would likely be $0 per month for Part A and the standard premium of $202.90 per month for Part B plus prescription benefits of about $32. So deduct that from the social security amount.

It does not make sense someone who has worked for so many years gets less than an elderly immigrant. This is why most other developed countries do NOT let elderly immigrate. They can come on visas for extended stays instead.

This.

Correct.

Another only in America! Example.

Every day more commons sense !!!!

The Trump administration is halting immigrant visa processing for people from 75 countries, including Brazil, Iran, Russia and Somalia, the latest effort by officials to restrict legal immigration pathways.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the indefinite pause aims to limit applicants deemed likely to become a “public charge,” a term for someone who relies on government benefits for their basic needs. The order takes effect Jan. 21, and a full list of the countries on the administration’s list has not been released.

Why did we ever allow “public charge”immigrants????

Hallelujah!

Absolute crap.

It is very difficult to immigrabt from several of the countries on that list if you are not UMC. Nigerian immigrants are more educated than any other group in America. I don't believe that they are more likely to be on welfare.

No it isn’t. You just have a “cousin” sponsor you and get on the family sponsored list.

Or fly over and overstay your 90 day tourist visa. Nothing happens.

Every single Nigerian I know is either a doctor or lawyer.

So what.

Ask them what they think of their countered govt. and opportunities.

Ask them if they brought over their parents, cousins and aunts.

If you dare, ask them what they think of USA’s African Americans.

Not eligible for Medicare (never worked in the US) or Medicaid. When they arrived, they paid for medical insurance out of pocket, but became eligible for, and received, Obamacare subsidies (their insurance premiums doubled within a year of the ACA enactment). Their green cards need to be renewed next year, and I am very concerned renewals will be affected next.

Medicare is age dependent.

Surely they’ve learned proficient English since 2007, 20 years ago.

It’s not just about welfare.

Similar to illegal economic migrants with dependents , they all start immediately using taxpayer services and social systems that others paid in to for decades.

Keep that up and it’s unsustainable and runs out of money and capacity.

Oh look, we are!

There is no evidence of this at scale. You making up an example of a time an immigrant got a benefit is not proof that immigrants at large are draining the social safety net or whatever.

Gaming the system is one of the major reasons why Americans are fed up with unchecked immigration.

Other developed nations demand proof that you will be self sustaining before they allow you to immigrate. Their services are for citizens who've paid into the system, not for freeloaders.

What is good ole US of A going to be like a ....Canada?! Gasp.
