Why do we have such low standards for ICE hiring and training?

Some of the loosened standards include:

*minimum age changed from 21 to 18--maximum age cap completely removed (used to be upper 30s).

*some recruits have been rushed through the process without passing the physical fitness test, written test, or a background check

*training time has been slashed from approx. 20 weeks to roughly 6–8 weeks

Ok, but shouldn't Republicans care about this? If they are focused on safety for US citizens, this is basically a recipe for disaster. Again, thinking of the one hospital security officer who made a bad situation more unstable and unsafe - but now we have unleashed people like that across the country.

Certainly does not make me feel more safe, whatsoever.

ICE is not making us more safe. A majority of Americans agree with that statement.

And Republicans are not focused on anything for US citizens. They are focused on making billionaires richer.

This is bullshit.

This, just from Minneapolis just in the past few weeks..... ICE has caught and incarcerated or deported hundreds of thousands like these.....

BREAKING: ICE has provided
@FoxNews
a list of the most egregious criminal aliens they've arrested during their surge in the sanctuary state of Minnesota, & it's the most disturbing list I've ever seen, including numerous convicted child rapists/sodomizers & ten convicted killers, most with deportation orders going back many years. Several from Laos, Somalia, and Sudan.

WARNING GRAPHIC - Highlights below:

Sriudorn Phaivan, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of strong-arm sodomy of a boy & strong-arm sodomy of a girl with a deportation order since 2018.

Tou Vang, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of sexual assault and sodomy of a girl under age 13 and procuring a child for prostitution with a deportation order since 2006.

Chong Vue, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of the strong-arm rape of a 12-year-old girl and kidnapping a child with intent to sexually assault her, with a deportation order since 2004,

Ge Yang, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of strong-arm rape, aggravated assault with a weapon, and strangulation with a deportation order since 2012.

Pao Choua Xiong, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of rape and child fondling with a deportation order since 2003.

Kou Lor, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of rape, rape with a weapon, and sexual assault with a deportation order since 1996.

Hernan Cortes-Valencia, Mexican illegal alien convicted of sexual assault of a child and DUI with a deportation order since 2016.

Abdirashid Adosh Elmi, a Somalian illegal alien convicted of homicide.

Gilberto Salguero Landaverde, a Salvadoran illegal alien convicted of three counts of homicide with a deportation order since June 2025.

Gabriel Figueroa Gama, a Mexican illegal convicted of homicide who has been previously deported in 2002.

Galuak Michael Rotgai, a Sudanese illegal alien convicted of homicide.

Thai Lor, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of two counts of homicide with a deportation order since 2009.

Mariana Sia Kanu, an illegal alien from Sierra Leone convicted of two counts of homicide with a deportation order since 2022.

Aldrin Guerrero Munoz, a Mexican illegal alien convicted of homicide with a deportation order since 2015.

Abdirashid Mohamed Ahmed, a Somalian illegal alien convicted of manslaughter with a deportation order since 2022.

Mongong Dual Maniang Deng, a Sudanese illegal alien convicted of attempt to commit homicide, weapon possession, and DUI.

Aler Gomez Lucas, a Guatemalan illegal alien convicted of negligent homicide with a vehicle and DUI with a deportation order since 2022.

Shwe Htoo, a Burmese illegal alien convicted of negligent homicide.

ICE says all of these criminal aliens were roaming freely in the sanctuary state of Minnesota prior to arrest, and that these are the type of people that politicians and activists are referring to as their “neighbors” as they attempt to interfere with ICE.

Statement to
@FoxNews
via ICE Director Todd Lyons:

"Regardless of staged political theatrics, ICE is going to continue to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens in Minnesota and elsewhere. Some of these criminal aliens have had final orders of removal for 30 years, but they’ve been free to terrorize Minnesotans. ICE’s arrests prevent recidivism and make communities safer, but it feels like local politicians want to ignore that part and drum up discontent rather than protect their own constituents.”

OP here. This really does not address the point of my thread whatsoever.

The hell it doesn't.

First of all, a pp said that "ICE does not make us more safe."
I would say that getting hundreds of thousands of rapists, thieves, and murderers off the streets does indeed make us more safe.

And, it was the work of ICE that got these thugs off the street - thanks to their training.

ICE actively makes us less safe. It’s also eroding our freedoms and sending us down a path of authoritarianism.

They commit far more crimes than they solve, and an awful lot of these “agents” are going to stand trial eventually.

Doubt me if you want, I don’t care. We won’t elect people that won’t commit to it

It's like we've deported a tiny handful of foreign thugs and replaced them with an entire army of home grown violent thugs and gave them badges and guns.

Badges that they are not required to carry. Just patches that say POLICE when they're not police.

We also give them masks.

Which is why criminals are easily pretending to be ICE for crime.

In August in New York, three men robbed a restaurant and tied up its staff, with the victims initially surrendering to the robbers because they identified themselves as ICE officers.

In April in Florida, a man kidnapped a woman who agreed to leave with someone posing as an ICE officer, only to be taken to an apartment complex where she escaped.

In Brooklyn in February, a man posing as an ICE officer directed a woman to a stairwell where he punched her and then tried to rape her, ultimately fleeing the scene with her purse and cell phone.

And in January in North Carolina, a man posing as an ICE officer entered a woman’s hotel room and sexually assaulted her, saying he would deport her if she did not have sex with him.

Gov Ferguson (Washington):

“Legitimate law enforcement officers must be clearly identifiable. I'm supporting a bill to prohibit non-law enforcement officers from making, providing, or possessing badges or other law enforcement insignias.

Thank you to sponsors Sen. Adrian Cortes and Rep. Edwin Obras.“

All states need to join California and Washington in this and the anti masking bills.

And yes, MAGA, they can do it. Save us your ignorant supremacy arguments. It’s been explained too many times to explain again.

Every encounter is a free for all. No training. No plan. Pathetic.

If these ice fan boys were smart, they’d start posting some kinds of videos where the interaction went well. Notice how we never see one where you walk away, saying “boy, that will handled like an adult?”

DHS has posted propaganda videos to X which, shockingly, have not persuaded a majority of the American people that ICE is doing good work.

No sensible person with better choices would sign up to be an ICE worker. Many cannot be considered for law enforcement or military due to criminal background or mental illness.
Trump had a long history of hiring unsuitable, untrained staff- look at his cabinet.

Shocker. In places our smartphones can't go, the competency is also bad.

Is the MAGA point of view that a concentration camp is fine if it doesn't have a gas chamber?

Homan was on FoxNews last week. He said "we're coming hard and fast. No apologies. 70% of who we get is a public safety or national security threat."

It's 7%.

And where is the $50,000 in cash?

WaPO: ICE is investing $100M on a “wartime recruitment” strategy to hire thousands of new officers. It plans to target gun rights supporters, military enthusiasts, those who listen to right-wing radio shows, UFC fight fans and those who shop for guns and tactical gear.

Oh really? You don't say

"Former ICE director says ‘wartime recruitment’ tactics like influencer campaigns and $50,000 bonuses could attract the wrong kind of agents"

He was on the Meet the Press today and at the end of the interview, which focused on Minneapolis, he was asked about the $50,000. He denied taking it and said he had done nothing wrong.

I work for a hospital that has an ER with a metal detector, but plenty of hospitals do not and are having to subdue patients not even knowing if they have a weapon. Also FWIW, medications like Haldol are not immediately effective, require coming at a combative patient with a sharp needle while someone holds them down, and may require multiple doses before the patient is subdued.

And yet, there accepted standards and culture healthcare. You do NOT curse at patients. Ever. Cussing out a patient could get you fired whether you are a doctor, nurses aide or hospital security. You don't punch them in the head. Choke holds are banned. Force and restraint are used if necessary, but under the concept of "nonmaleficence" to prevent harm. And yes, there are some horrific examples of violence toward healthcare workers which is worsening over time and speak to a need for increased screening and protection of staff. Our hospital security officers carry guns and we have had shooting scares - someone pulled a gun in the ER or the ICU, etc.

But when I see videos of ICE, it is just jarring. There are zero standards for professionalism, appears to be zero training on how to deescalate a situation. While most of our hospital ecurity are excellent, as a nurse manager, I once kicked a new hospital security officer off of my unit because they were so arrogant and confrontational, they made a bad situation worse. I think of that when I see ICE.

Shouldn't even Republicans want to have basic professionalism standards and adequate training for federal officers?

You do realize the core duties of law enforcement are different than working at a hospital. Do you wonder why mean military people have to drop bombs instead of love on their targets?

The actor DEAN CAIN certainly seems to have been shutting himself up away and making himself unavailable recently

Aren't there any more movies being made today about saving holidays with dogs ... must be an immigrant conspiracy

He could be the new face of why ICE is necessary but that dude is nowhere to be found right now.

Most posters here who are genuinely living in the US believe what you are saying.

You are up against campaigns being paid millions of dollars to refute everything you say that it truth

Warfare is not just boots on the ground ... and I wish I could say it's not guns shooting anymore but we're past that. We have gestapo police declaring themselves as instruments of the gov't.

I only wish I could say to some of my gun Jesus relatives that "you are dead to me" except I said it a long time ago. I'd have to unblock them to say it.
