Which is basically saying that you want goods and services procured by city government to serve their personal interests and those of their friends and family (something Jack Evans certainly mastered), rather than the poorer people in the city. Interesting political orientation, but to each their own. |
Socialism is more Scandinavian social safety nets, progressive taxation, and high infrastructure spending. Communism is ownership of the means of production. Otherwise, what be the difference between the two? |
DP and I'm sure there are lots of great philosophical points about the real meaning of socialism and communism. But for DC politics it's none of that. Janeese is for the people, not political cronies, and gets flak as communist/socialist/whatever because of that. She cares and is willing to fight for individuals and that scares some people here. |
No. It means I view most politicians as corrupt, just that some are more subtle than others. But a small amount of personal enrichment (10’s of thousands) is tiny compared to the overall DC budget. I’d much rather see an otherwise competent administrator skim a few pennies off the top, in exchange for providing solid policy direction. Jack Evans wasn’t ideal, but he was the adult in the room when it came to overall financial stewardship compared to most of his council colleagues at the time. You might also consider that Marion Barry was actually not personally corrupt. I’ve never heard stories of him accepting bribes. That didn’t prevent him from being one of the worst mayors in the city’s history. Personal honesty doesn’t guarantee strong fiscal policies. It’s better to decouple those two facets, and select the candidate with the right policy direction. |
She's for the criminals. |
i She has more empathy for criminals than for victims. |
Technically, criminals are the most vulnerable citizens. |
🙄 You all are the reason for getting labeled as fox news talking points. It's not particularly funny, creative, or insightful, so maybe cut it out? |
Weird how you don't combat our posts? I'm a Democrat but I don't think we should be coddling criminals. |
Combat what? It's just childish "hurr durr, she likey crimey". We can have real policy discussions about democratic approaches to crime. But not when you post that nonsense. |
And that's the problem. No corrupt official is going to stop at 10's of thousands when they can make millions from kickbacks, nepotism, and so on. I could go on, but your premise is so silly that it doesn't merit much more than that. |
| Right, like we're going to find out in a few months that Jack Evans wrote that himself. |
And to think how worked up people in this city about Trump's corruption. Is it an issue of scale or team? |
I don't think Jack Evans has a problem with Trump's corruption. But the rest of us do. Corruption, corruption, corruption! |
Just imagine how much better DC would be if we had more elected officials like Jack Evans and Trayon White . . . As Borat would say, “NOT!!!” |
