Since there is already a mayoral thread re: Janese, perhaps it makes sense to consolidate discussion of the Mayor and Council races into one thread?
According to media reports, Anita Bonds is not running for re-election, so in addition to Congress, Mayor and several Ward seats, this at-large seat held by democrats, is now up for grabs. It will also be interesting to see if anyone challenges Phil Mendelson for the Council Chair. Here is the article about Bonds: https://washingtoncitypaper.com/article/775411/anita-bonds-will-not-seek-re-election-adding-to-the-already-chaotic-2026-campaign-season/ |

The only thing we can hope for is a candidate to come out of the business community because the current slate of prospects is poor and will destroy the city.
Didn’t live in the Barry era? Get ready you will soon! |
| How about Randy Clark for mayor? |
I appreciate you trying very hard, but that's not going to make anything like that happen. |
Marion Barry was a unicorn politician. He won't appear again. Stop fear mongering. Many people could come forward and rise to the occasion. Please stop acting like we're in a hopeless situation. |
| It sounds like Kevin Chavous, the former councilmember's son, is going to be one of many running for the at-large seat. |
| Heck of a haul for Lewis-George in the December 10th filings. She had 2% of all voters from the 2022 primary make donations to her campaign. That is huge. |
| What do non-socialist democrats do in DC? Are we just republicans now? |
| I'm tired of the same ole faces and recycled council members. Somebody, anybody, help! |
Capitalist scumbag. |
Again, someone running off of a "name". Shall is past not come to light :/. |
Is it really? It would be dismal anywhere else? |
| People who want a business or business minded person already have that in the current mayor, but they don’t appreciate her. |
Well, no because the DC Republican Party is a joke and exists only to get jobs with the national party or federal government. If they actually cared about winning elections, they wouldn’t run any candidates and get behind independents or they would disown the national platform (which would be their own obituary). I had a chat with the guy who ran against Frumin and he wanted to run as an independent but he said the republicans told him they would also then run a candidate and completely tank anyone’s chances. |
The GOP are the ones having the government take stakes in private companies and "arranging" deals and mergers - the GOP are the socialists. Just stop with the Fox BS and join reality. |
