Boston College ED1 Decisions tomorrow night?

So my kid with scores near the 25th percentile submitted.

Yet Im seeing lots of test optional acceptances.

I wish there were clearer rules.

that was the correct move. if they didn't get in or were deferred, it wasn't about test scores. those helped.

from our school, service moves the needle. especially if you can tie it to professional goals - ie EMT with interest in medicine, designed grey water system on mission trip to costa rica with interest in engineering.

This one is harder to believe.

Why? If it's Convent or Stuart Hall in SF this would track. Very rigorous high schools and not your average catholic private. Closer to St. Albans or Cathedral in terms of quality to put it into DC terms.

We visited last year, so 18 months ago, and AO was very clear that BC didn’t want to see scores below 1450. Maybe changed some since then.

Full pay will help cross the finish line at a school like BC. Same at Tulane, Wake etc.

We toured this summer and heard the same thing. They were actively saying not to submit test scores unless they were at least 1450. Below that, they said to please apply test optional. Seemed like they were trying to maintain a certain average SAT score IMO.

1450 is their 25% though. So that would be pretty standard advice from a lot of schools.

25/50/75
SAT Composite 1450 1490 1520
SAT Evidence-Based Reading and
Writing 710 730 760
SAT Math 720 760 780

funny how 25 for EBR and math are 710 and 720 but composite is 1450. But I dont know how math works

I went this fall and the AO didn’t say that at all. She stressed the importance of submitting scores and how they were strongly encouraged.

Is it a lie when they say they are need blind for US students?

"near 25th percentile" isn't going to cut it.

Should have applied TO.

56% of enrolled students were TO in last year’s
CDS. How did she explain that part?

if it was around the 25%, this wouldn't have hurt and wouldnt have helped.

IOW the test scores were not the deciding factor

AO’s lie, a lot. Don’t believe anything they say.

Was your child accepted ED?

No. Deferred with 1440, but from a magnet public not a Catholic school.

Congrats! Hope your daughter gets a chance to have a long visit so she can see what a special place BC is.
