I added tennis to my workout routine and lost a couple inches on my waist and all my pants fit better. I was working out regularly before but focus was on weight lifting and then barre/yoga/pilates. I walked a lot but compared to a couple hours of tennis a couple times a week, was getting a fraction of the cardio.
It was unexpected because everyone had told me that at midlife, weightlifting and diet were the most important, and that cardio wouldn't help me lose weight. But running around a tennis court 5-8 hours a week had a huge impact on my shape. I'm leaner all over. It also impacted the balance of everything else. I'm eating more, but craving mostly high protein and fruits/veggies -- I don't crave sugar like I used to because my body wants something more nutritious to keep up my energy. I've also upped the weights in my weightlifting routine and I have to lift more and more often to see the same results as before. I also drink WAY more water, like more than double what I used to drink, especially in the summer. |
| My doctor prescribed metformin, which I have had some abdominal weight loss success with. But it does upset my stomach a bit. |
I don't want to compete with anyone, and actually, would be ok at a size 10 (my current size) if it were evenly distributed. But it looks like crap when your legs and arms are normal but you have a big belly. Clothing just isn't flattering. The butt and thighs of my pants are saggy in order for them to fit my waist. |
This is good but I wonder how it would affect your cortisol levels when you are so obsessed with losing weight. |
| Pilates, running, lowish carb (as in limit bread, pasta, baked goods), no alcohol, lots of water, good sleep, less stress. If all that doesn't fully work, GLP-1. |
