Without ED0-ED3 (deferral) practice to hold the yield rate, without TO inflated stats, would UC be able to hold on to T20? I doubt it.

The median SAT/ACT scores are 1540/35. Although it’s test optional, over 75 percent submit test scores. That’s in line, if not better, than most Top10 schools.
Maybe that answers your question.

Having 25% of the student body not submitting scores is not something one should be particularly proud of.
But I see that the standard you hold is low.

Without inflated yield rate and inflated stats, UC is at the same level as UVA.

You are entitled to your (uninformed) opinion, but please do not spread misinformation.

The median SAT/ACT scores for UVA are 1470/33, with less than 60 percent submitting test scores.

As another reference, the corresponding stats for Yale are 1530/34, with about 85 percent of students submitting scores.

Without the string of EDs, it’s likely UC will slide down to UVA.

I am skeptical about the "meaningness" of some of these other summer activities, many of which are predatory as well, or even if they are not pay-for-play, they are pursued only with the goal of getting into college.

I don't see anything wrong with this program and I do not see why some people are saying it is predatory. At least this summer college program offers some tangible admissions benefit, unlike the many others. These kids must really want to go to this school, and so they chose to participate. They get their answer early, so if all goes well they are done, and if rejected they still have plenty of time for to work on other applications, and perhaps even ED elsewhere. Plus, the college gets to see how each student actually performs in college courses and behaves in a college setting. Much more informative for them than an essay or a GPA from some random high school.

Never, ever. Plus UVA is a public.

It's a hard school to get admitted to. Don't care if it's ED0/1/2 or RD.

T10 for a reason.

I think this program is fine, but ED2 is the one that's predatory. By the time ED2 is done, the student has already submitted everywhere - ED2 is there just to increase yield, which benefits the school only. There's no benefit to the student.

Whomever keeps posting that summer programs are predatory, most of UChicago's summer programs are for credit, the kid actually gets credits for attending. How is this predatory?? This is actually much better than most, that are not for credit.

I am sure it is the best feeling for the entire family to be done with the college admissions process in Sept/Oct, incredible really.

Recieved?

Kid took English class I hope.

I have no interest in Chicago, my kids have no interest in Chicago. But I'm also happy to have a few hundred kids lock in before the process even starts for the rest. maybe Vandy and JHU and BC will add an ED0 - even better for everyone else aiming for T10s.

That is a good point.
USC and UM added ED this year, that also will eliminate some competition.

It would be better for everyone if all kids could mindfully narrow down what one or two schools were actually a good fit for them. Instead, many kids apply indiscriminately to a large number of prestige schools just to see where they can land. This overwhelming mass of applications is why admissions has become a crap shoot. I would be thrilled if my kid's top choice offered a few ED0 slots. They already know it is the best option for their major, but are not sure about vibe. The benefit of ED0 over ED1 is that the kid can actually try out the school before committing.

Even better if Vandy JHU BC follow Chicago to increase ED class to 80%.

The Yale non-submitters are high caliber kids such as international award winners, olympiads, and musicians and artists of great talent.

Chicago doesn’t get these talent. The test optional crowd at Chicago are private feeder kids. This is an invalid comparison.
