UVA is head shoulders over UNC and Wisconsin. Michigan depends on major.

Oh, brother. You again.

Not "brother". NP. UVA IS ranked above UNC and Wisconsin. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public?_sort=rank&_sortDirection=asc. UVA is ranked 4; UNC 5 and Wisconsin at 13.

VT is ranked above W&M. Do you agree VT is better?

Ranked? More kids apply to VT because it has popular programs - like engineering - that WM doesn’t have, and non-engineering programs have lower admission standards. For the liberal arts WM is better, both in actual experience and rigor and reputation.

VT is better ranked than W&M if you want to cite UNSWR. Don’t cite USNWR to say UVA is better than UNC and Wisconsin if you can’t also acknowledge USNWR says VT is better than W&M.

lol in what world is Wisconsin even in the same sentence as UVA.

My son chose Wisconsin because he couldn't stand UVA. There's another sentence for you!

Better for what and who? Since my child wants to study chemical engineering, VT is better for him than W&M would be. For someone else, W&M would potentially be better.

My child is studying Russian and International Relations. VT was absolutely the better school for him.

I wonder what they used. My kid is a senior and we just started to use SchoolLinks. We favorited a school in that and selected it in the common app, so now school links has him in as “applied” even though he’s submitted nothing. I wonder how many of those were unfinished applications.

Are you in APS? I thought they all used Naviance.

The way it works in Naviance is you can heart/favorite as many schools as you want. Then, you will select which schools you are applying to and the admissions method (ED/EA/RD). It doesn't automatically switch you over. This system helps the kids and counselors keep track of application deadlines. Once the references are uploaded into Naviance by the teachers and counselors, they will automatically push out to the schools that are already on the applying list. If your kid adds a school later, they will need to talk to the counselor. The students do enter their outcome in the system. I'm sure there is underreporting on both sides, just as a high stat kid might not bother with their safety, they might also not put that Stanford rejection in, either. The only one that the student MUST change is where they are attending so the final transcript can be sent. The system is pretty smooth. My DC did update for all schools.

If I lived in VA, which I don't and never have, but just from an outside perspective my college selection list in order would be:

UVA
Virginia Tech
W&M/W&L (would be a notch higher but I like football/sports vibe and a livelier campus)
JMU (love the campus location)
Richmond
