| It’s a European thing. |
| Every generation needs some terrible fashion choices to cringe about when they're older. There are so many super dorky trends out there right now . . . socks over leggings, shapeless jeans, sweater vests. I will fly my old-lady flag and shun them. |
The fact that your triggered by strangers fashion choices is the problem, not the fashion choice. |
It's so nice! I've been doing it (at home) for 30+ years. Because it get so much judgment, when I leave my car, I take the socks off and shove them in my handbag or glove box. Maybe I don't need to do that anymore |
No. In American, the trend was absolutely started by urban blacks, 10+ years ago. Likely influenced by jail culture, see also sagging pants. |
Hmm, then why was I wearing Birkenstocks and socks in the 1990s as a white person? |
|
WTH? Seriously? Is this a troll post?
You all need to be way more tolerant and adaptable. Sheesh! Or get a job! |
No. Germans have been wearing them with socks since the 1700’s. Birks have been made in Germany since the 1700’s. They were developed during the Industrial Revolution so workers would have comfort when standing and working long shifts. |

Socks with sandals has been on trend in the US (and all over really) for a number of years now. 10 or so.
As far as the genesis of it, I don’t know. But it is not a low brow look as the poster above implies. Men on fashion runways have been wearing socks with sandals for a number of years now |
| Socks and sandals are a great combo. Very comfortable. Add some cargo shorts with all the pockets and you are ready for a great day. |
