Are we in a quiet recession?

We could use a recession for sure, but there are hiring signs up everywhere, and I’ve had multiple friends with high level professional jobs switch employers in the last six months. This feels more like a dc thing. I’m an attorney and my work is insanely busy, large corporate clients all over the couple. I know companies are laying off, but that feels more company specific than about national trends.

What high level professional jobs are in Florida? Do you work at a theme park?

I mean, Miami is one of the highest income cities in the country. I'm in biglaw and make $2m+. DH is in financial services and makes $1m+. We are DC transplants for 15+ years ago with jobs tied to DC/NY/LA/SF. Our friends are doctors, lawyers and accountants, and most of our friends make seven figures. Now you tell me about your high level professional job.

And it will be lied about unless and until there is regime change.

100% true.

Also, check out the understatement chops on you. Very demure.

Miami is definitely not representative of all of Florida. Miami is its own little state within Florida. Outside of Miami and some engineering jobs in Orlando, where are the high-paying FL jobs?

They layoff a few people at a time, but it’s happening. I have no reason to think other large companies are behaving differently

My DH who has been hybrid or remote for 15+ years now has heard rumblings his company is going to RTO 5 days per week. There is zero need for this because people are spread out all over the country and they’ve always had a big work/life balance push. This is clearly a stealth layoff to push people out, especially those who moved farther out. Luckily we didn’t move and are still a 2 stop metro commute from his office. But some people are going to have to super commute or quit. And if you quit you don’t even get a severance. I think this type of stuff is happening all over.

I was responding to the PP who scoffed at the idea of ANY high level professional jobs in Florida. I think she forgot about Miami. Again, folks living in their own DC bubble and not realizing there's a whole other world out there with different experiences.

DP. Maybe you should kindly just step out of this thread, boss babe. You and your friends are extreme outliers. You don’t speak for normal people, Floridians or otherwise. “Absolutely no signs of recession here.” What a joke.

All of your work is not in Miami based organizations, you clients see the same as in DC/NY/LA.

PP here. I’m from Florida. I did not forget about Miami, whose economy is all about So America expat and trade, drug trade, and recently crypto. All your friends are rent seekers not true capitalist endeavors making a product; you service wealthy people.

Lord help me if I’m ever living in Miami with a $3M HHI and spending my free time trying to prove myself to random people on DCUM.

Florida is going to be like Nebraska soon, same with Texas.

There are not a ton of high paying jobs in Florida. Florida ranks number 52 out of 63 states for salaries on ZipRecruiter.

As of Aug 25, the average annual salary in Florida is $49,261. Just in case you need a simple salary calculator, that works out to be approximately 23.68 an hour. This is equivalent of 947.33 a week or 4,105.08 a month. Most salaries in Florida range between 34,035.00 (25th percentile) to 63,067.00 (75th percentile) annually.

Sure some Drs, Lawyers and a few business people make tons the average citizen in the state makes shit. Now prices are rising and GOP isn't leaving so look at Oklahoma and get back to us on how Florida a red state will survive without blue ones.

Please tell me what type of accountant earns $1m. DH is apparently doing it wrong.

Probably the ones who work for cartels and money launderers.
