I’m in Florida. Absolutely no signs of recession here. House sales cooling down over the last year, but that was expected after the triple price increases after Covid. We could use a recession for sure, but there are hiring signs up everywhere, and I’ve had multiple friends with high level professional jobs switch employers in the last six months. This feels more like a dc thing. I’m an attorney and my work is insanely busy, large corporate clients all over the couple. I know companies are laying off, but that feels more company specific than about national trends.
What high level professional jobs are in Florida? Do you work at a theme park?
I mean, Miami is one of the highest income cities in the country. I'm in biglaw and make $2m+. DH is in financial services and makes $1m+. We are DC transplants for 15+ years ago with jobs tied to DC/NY/LA/SF. Our friends are doctors, lawyers and accountants, and most of our friends make seven figures. Now you tell me about your high level professional job.
Miami is definitely not representative of all of Florida. Miami is its own little state within Florida. Outside of Miami and some engineering jobs in Orlando, where are the high-paying FL jobs?
Florida is going to be like Nebraska soon, same with Texas. There are not a ton of high paying jobs in Florida. Florida ranks number 52 out of 63 states for salaries on ZipRecruiter. As of Aug 25, the average annual salary in Florida is $49,261. Just in case you need a simple salary calculator, that works out to be approximately 23.68 an hour. This is equivalent of 947.33 a week or 4,105.08 a month. Most salaries in Florida range between 34,035.00 (25th percentile) to 63,067.00 (75th percentile) annually. Sure some Drs, Lawyers and a few business people make tons the average citizen in the state makes shit. Now prices are rising and GOP isn't leaving so look at Oklahoma and get back to us on how Florida a red state will survive without blue ones.
