Let’s discuss how Islam and Orthodox Jewish religions treat their women. |
Most religions are bad for women, mostly because the religions were formed centuries ago when women had few rights. |
This is false. Religion provides for women emotional support, a stable and comforting centerpiece of life, and a hub to raise children, often consulting with a priest, nun, or other women who assist and provide a sounding board for issues that come up. Wise women understand that they don’t “know it all” and so rely on religion to help. This wise course of action has held up for thousands of years. Religion works. You are under the mistaken impression that women are dragged against their will to a religious place of worship, mind-raped by dogma, then cower in fear all the day long from trauma. It is usually the woman who maintains household stability by incorporating religious teachings and traditions into the family. Religion provides a venue for weddings, and teaches sons and daughters not to be like the immoral, disease-ridden secular whores and whoremongers who spurn religious teachings on modesty and appropriate sexual behavior. Religious people have higher birthrates because they shun homosexuality and immoral sexual behavior which can cause sterility due to disease. It is the immoral and ungodly woman, demanding her way, refusing to submit to rules designed for her protection, who hates religion. It is the Jewish religion that has kept Jews from having their identity annihilated. It has been a foundation that no nation, despite pogroms and murder sprees of terror, has been able to eliminate. |
Religion is good for some women and terrible for others |
Agree - any religion that tell people they will live eternally in heaven after they die is a bad religion - in other words, most religions. |
Fundamentalist much? |
Fundamentalist much? |
Same as Christian Nationalists. Ie Project 2025 has great amazing bigly ideas for women and young girls. Written by none other than the Heritage Foundation ultra-right Christian men. Now let's talk about how white Christian males treat young girls. In July alone, 34 of them were arrested, charged, and sent to prison for child sexual abuse. Some where church leaders hum.... And this guy, out of NC, a white Christian male Republican grandpa, is a real Christian. A Republican elections official has been accused of lacing his granddaughters' ice creams with cocaine and MDMA at a North Carolina Dairy Queen. James Edwin Yokeley, chair of the Surry County Board of Elections, was arrested after surveillance cameras caught him dropping two pills into the two teenage girls' ice creams on August 8, the Wilmington Police Department said. |
No absolutely no. The Catholic religion, my town of all Catholics but 4 Jewish families and two Protestants on Long Island, one of the largest Catholic Church communities in this country, did not ever once help women! That is insane to even think that. Men beat their wives over and over again, and the priests or nuns sent these women back home. When they had anywhere from 8-14 kids, and their husbands were raping them. Yes, this absolutely happened. Then there were the husbands who beat their kids over and over again, and the nuns and priests again sent the wives home. This is not only a Catholic Church problem, it is a religion problem Religion doesn't protect women or children. Church is one of the most common places for kids to be abused. |
Kids are murdered at church too and no one talks about it on the religion forum. Why is that? |
Maybe because it’s too awful to talk about and people are afraid that atheists will hassle them. |
Your anecdotal experience does not apply to an entire religion. The church is not (at this time) a law enforcement agency. Notice that the woman who was beaten went to the church, not the police, because she was hoping for a peaceful resolution not resulting in her husband going to jail, leaving her without income to support her children. Most men who beat their wives are also alcoholics. I do not know why this church did not inform the police if child rape was going on, I don’t have sufficient data to know why it could not help. Perhaps the church did not have the means or expertise to handle it, but to blame all of religion which is a net positive force for good, is wrong. There are atheists who beat their wives and rape their children. Is that because of atheism or is it that sinful person who is responsible. Not every person who goes to church or claims to be a Christian is actually a Christian. And those who are truly Christians are not infallible, incapable of making mistakes and doing the wrong thing. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21) |
You are correct when you say that pp's anecdotal experience doesn't apply to an entire religion. Meanwhile, it seems like it doesn't apply to anyone or anything. It seems like religion is a sham. |
| United Church of Christ/Congregationalists haven't been mentioned but they were among the first churches to ordain women back in the 1850s. |
THere's no indication that the church a "net positive force" as pp claims. It sounds like pp is excusing the church completely. |
