Christian Denominations & Women

Best are Methodist and Episcopal. All the rest are regressive, just by varying degrees. I'm Catholic and I'd say it's right in the middle. Mormon should be lower.

Here's my take...
Off the top of my head:

Treats women more unequally:
- Southern Baptist
- Reformed Evangelical
- Calvinist/Puritan
- Jehovah Witness
- Pentecostal

Treats women more fairly:
- Roman Catholic
- Church of Latter-Day Saints (non-Fundy)
- Unitarian
- Episcopalian
- Charismatic Evangelical
- Presbyterian
- Lutheran

Thank you for your thoughts and views!!

I bet this list was put together by a Roman Catholic, who is told by their church how progressive it is.

The Catholic Church is not progressive. Don't kid yourself.

+1 Does the OP not realize that the Catholic church does not allow women to lead?

The church I went to is non denominational . They have female pastors who give sermons.

Women who give sermons, but don't run the church.

Most of the staff are women. So, most who run the church are women.

But the nominal leader is always a guy.

And many Eucharistic Ministers are women. Catholic schools, a massive ministry, are often led by women.

I’m Catholic and a female. I feel very respected.

The main pastor is a guy, yes. But, relatively speaking, it's a pretty egalitarian church.

One of the sermons he preached was about the verse "wives obey your husbands". I've heard sermons about that verse my whole life (40 years going to church). He was the first pastor to explain that this verse wasn't about men being the master of the house, but rather about harmony in the marriage. He explained the context of when that was written and what was going on in that time when that letter was written. That was the first time I had ever heard that verse explained this way, and it cemented my belief that this church treated women equally.

They also reach out to immigrants, legal or otherwise, and provide services to them. They try to really live the verse, "love thy neighbor", whoever or wherever that neighbor is from.

How nice for you. Meanwhile, all of Catholic leadership is male, starting with the Pope.

Yep, this is what I was thinking. When the catholic church allows women priests or gets a female pope, then we can reconsider

Got to give Catholic Women credit -- they really love their church and are continuously looking for ways that it's good for women

Hahaha!! This is great! We can just reinterpret what is written to mean whatever we want, regardless what the sexist white male leaders (i.e., the Pope) say. I mean hey, whatever keeps our numbers up and the money and power flowing - right?

We don’t have to look for ways it’s good for women. They are simply there, so no searching necessary.

It appears the fact priests must be male offends some non-Catholics. Okay. That’s fine. I’m not offended by it at all, especially because there are so many other ways for me to assume meaningful leadership within the church.

There are still parts of the military unavailable to women. I also can’t be an NFL player, eligible to make millions. I haven’t lost any sleep about how the military and sporting franchises have belittled me.

If you are looking for something to enrage you, you’ll always find it.

They all believe in the supernatural, which is like believing in Santa.

Whatever. I was answering the question.
