FCPS investigating alleged instances of staff arranging abortions for students

There needs to be an investigation to see if this was accurate. But even if it was, this allegedly happened four years ago in one school. The headline on this thread suggests this is widespread at FCPS and I seriously doubt that it is case.

You can tell early voting is about to start in Virginia.

In what way does the headline imply it's widespread?

Before turning into a pitchfork mob, let's wait for the results of the investigation.

There needs to be a thorough investigation, with information released incrementally as the facts are determined. As it stands there is way too much wild speculation coming from both sides.

What we have is a statement from FCPS that they are investigating the report and that they just found out about it this week. I find that hard to believe that a four year old allegation took them by surprise.

What would Winsome Earles-Searles have done differently from Glenn Youngkin that would have prevented this from happening? Oh, nothing.

Northam was governor in 2021. Not that I'd expect the governor to have prevented this in any case.

The staff member probably did it in secret with their own funds.

Exactly. And, what if the parents were Muslim or evangelical christians or something?

Then the teacher and her student would have no choice accept to navigate this termination all alone.

FWIW, judicial authorization is indeed required if not involving the parents, but there's no requirement to prove abuse or anything, just that the minor needs to be "mature enough and well enough informed to make her abortion decision, in consultation with her physician, independent of the wishes of any authorized person". Paragraph W of https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/16.1-241/

W. Petitions filed by a juvenile seeking judicial authorization for a physician to perform an abortion if a minor elects not to seek consent of an authorized person.

After a hearing, a judge shall issue an order authorizing a physician to perform an abortion, without the consent of any authorized person, if he finds that (i) the minor is mature enough and well enough informed to make her abortion decision, in consultation with her physician, independent of the wishes of any authorized person, or (ii) the minor is not mature enough or well enough informed to make such decision, but the desired abortion would be in her best interest.

So what if a girl is pregnant and goes to her counselor for help, the counselor should just say "go talk to your momma" even though the girl knows that momma will just beat her and force her to have a baby she doesn't want? THANK YOU to the staff who helped these girls.

These girls were minors. I can't even believe someone would think like you. This is ILLEGAL - and I'm pro-choice.

PP is 100% right. Anyone who helps a CHILD not bear another child has my deepest admiration.

There's a reason she didn't talk to Momma. Ever considered that Daddy may be the Daddy?

fcps was also paying for these abortions. it’s wrong on so many levels

“No choice?” The correct choice would be to help the teen talk to her parents so they can “navigate” the pregnancy (whether it be continued or terminated) together as a family.
If the student was being abused, the correct “choice” for the staff member would be to involve CPS.

The narrative that teachers/school staff should circumvent parental involvement in difficult matters like gender dysphoria and pregnancy is probably not a winning one.

This is a great story and should hopefully get more traction.

How is it equitable for a student to have the employees of the school they work at to pay for their healthcare?

There are so many things wrong with what these employees did. I hope they are able to trace the money back to individuals and hold them accountable.

So much conjecture at this point! Different opinions. They could all be false. Did FCPS staff impregnate? Was it because the child was experiencing abuse at home? We don’t know yet! Cops should have been involved if not the parents if a student divulged something. Let’s wait to learn more.

It certainly implies more than 1 which is what is alleged.

No. It should have been turned over to CPS. Schools do not need to be in the abortion business.

I thought Nick Minock only had it in for LCPS. He's branching out.

Now you are wildly speculating.
