What they missed is that they are going to start imposing a new $250 "visa integrity fee" (yes it's "reimbursable" but the process for obtaining a refund sounds dubious so good luck with that). Additionally, over the weekend they further tightened the requirements for interview waiver. A significant amount of people no longer qualify and will now need to have an interview. In some locations, the wait time for an interview is already over a year. Between the new fee which pushes the cost of a single visa to over $400 and interview wait times being pushed out a 2 or 3 years.... people just won't come here anymore (which is likely the point). They will go vacation in Europe.

+1. It’s also bad optics. Obama had his family tag on to actual work trips overseas but his vacations were mostly domestic-Hawaii where he grew up and Martha’s Vineyard. They did a Spain vacation towards the end of his two terms and I remember criticism of it.

The number of foreign trips JD brought his 3 kids on in just 6 months is just incredible…

I can see why trump goes to Scotland, he has a club there and likes to irritate the Scottish.
But Vance?? I can only assume his wife is a fan of British tv and wants to immerse herself in it. But her own husband just cancelled pbs, our only way of viewing that beloved tv. Much of British tv is inclusive, welcoming to those who are different, the exact opposite of what USA is under trump/vance. This is truly bizarre.

I’m not sure if there is anywhere on earth that won’t boo her unless she divorces him. But leave the cotswolds and rest of uk alone, it’s a nice place!

Usha Vance was originally slated for a solo trip to Greenland with one of their sons to attend a dogsled race. But that plan was scrapped amid growing discontent from the governments of Greenland and Denmark over the visit and Trump’s tough talk of the U.S. taking the territory away from a NATO ally. Instead, the vice president joined the trip, and their visit was limited to a U.S. military base there.

On his Italy trip, Vance took heat on X for being photographed inside the Sistine Chapel. Photography there is usually forbidden, but the session turned out to have been sanctioned by the Vatican, as has happened on past visits by U.S. dignitaries.

A decision during the same trip to close the Roman Colosseum to the public so Usha Vance and the children could take a tour drew some grumbling from tourists stranded outside. A consumer group has since filed a legal complaint.

In India, the Taj Mahal, normally swarming with tourists, was also closed to visitors to accommodate the Vances, according to local media reports.

The Vances appear to have tried on occasion to avoid such disruptions. In France, the family visited the Louvre on a Tuesday, a day when the museum is closed to the public.

Usha had a scholarship from Bill Gates to do her master’s degree at Cambridge. She’d much rather be vacationing in the UK than in MAGA-land.

What shocks me is how much vacation-time they’re spending out of the country-Germany. Greenland, India, England/the UK, plus vacations to San Diego and Vermont-he’s barely been VP for a half a year.

But I guess if it’s at taxpayer expense they’ll milk it for all it’s worth.

You might try reading the article you posted, which is about the 8 years of Obama travel. JD Vance has taken far more taxpayer funded vacations in his first six months in office than Obama did. But then again, Obama was actually working.

As is Vance. He tacked on family vacations to the ends of his business trips. It's clear you have a very dull life if this is the kind of thing you're fixating on. Presidents - and Vice Presidents - take their families with them on work trips/vacations all the time. But of course, your partisan blinders prevent you from admitting these facts.

JD Vance isn't tacking this trip onto anything work related. The British certainly aren't happy about having him in the Cotswolds, major protests are planned.

He took his family to Germany tacking a trip on to a speech where he praised neo Nazis.

He/Usha tried to take his kid to do dogsledding in Greenland, then had to pretend to tack something US military related onto his trip, when protests hit that too due to Trump's threatening to have the US takeover Greeland.

Nobody wants him, but we pay for JD/Usha to go everywhere.
