My company has had multiple layoffs since the beginning of the year. |
Death will come for him eventually, and it will be the first patriotic thing he’s ever done ![]() |
Oh, OK. Let's cut it in half. So one in every 4,848 lost their jobs. Shocking. ![]() |
From today's WSJ:
This Job Market Is Weaker Than It Looks “The good news has been that layoff activity has remained relatively low, with employers hanging on to workers despite worries about the economy. And wage growth remains decent. But economic uncertainty has slowed the pace of hiring. People who have jobs are keeping them, but those who want jobs are having a tough time finding work. That includes recent high-school and college graduates, people who are back on the job hunt after an absence, and those who have been fir"ed. That has created a stagnant market, where there is little movement even when new jobs are added. It is an environment where a bit more hiring could rekindle job growth, while a slight pickup in layoffs could make the labor market more stuck. |
These are net job losses. Companies are constantly adding jobs and subtracting jobs due to changes in customer demand, cycles of projects and contracts, seasonal ups and downs, etc. some business fail; new businesses start up. Every month, hundreds of thousands of jobs end and hundreds of thousands of new jobs are created. In June, small business lost 47k more jobs than they added, but that doesn’t mean only 47k people lost their jobs. |
Anyone looking for a job right now knows this all too well. |
This is so very maga! I bet that you’ve “done your research” about vaccines, too, yes? Any groundbreaking thoughts about hunters laptop? Alien abductions? |
I never said I'm better than others. I'm saying stop putting me on the line for medical spending of complete strangers because you want to feel good about yourself by spending other people's money. I'm further saying that you're probably one of the takers. Are we clear? |
Sure. I have stopped spending money because we are concerned about job loss. We aren't traveling for a vacation this year. |
You seem not to understand that you are on the line for strangers' health costs whether Medicaid exists or not. The question is whether the care happens efficiently and with optimal health outcomes or expensively and with lots of human misery. |
You don't seem to understand how many illegal aliens are going to self-deport after all these social benefits start drying up. This is just one step in a series of many. |

What is ADP's track record on these? Do they get adjusted later in a substantial way?
I remember there being a split between BLS and DOL, but don't remember this one. |
Basic economics—when you haphazardly, randomly, and suddenly fire thousands of federal workers throughout the country and do the same with government research grants, programs, contracts and subsidies—you f**k up the economy. You make it worse by giving trillions of tax cuts to billionaires and multimillionaires while cutting Medicaid, SNAP, Veterans programs, and other funding that affects people throughout the United States. Add TACO Trumps tariffs and masked ICE “agents” terrorizing people and you’ve created a shit economy. News flash—when regular people get fired they don’t spend money. They don’t go to the local coffee shop, or out to eat, or put their kid in camp or daycare. Their spending slows and the businesses that have relied on receiving that spending aren’t getting that business/money so they not only make less but need fewer workers or have fewer hours for people to work. Trickle down economics from billionaires and mega millionaires DOES NOT WORK. Money in the hands of poor people, working class people and actual middle class people grows the economy. People who sign their kids up for camps or classes or travel sports. People who go to dinner or rent or see a movie. People who buy diapers, school supplies, yard and lawn care items. Who hire someone to update the bathroom. No $-they’ll live with the ugly tile. You know why the markets like certainty? Because people get nervous about spending when things are chaotic and they don’t know what’s going to happen. Trump is America’s abusive husband/father and everyone’s walking on eggshells wondering when he’s going to explode or what he’s going to break next. That makes people cautious and is not conducive to economic growth. |
