Catholics: What do you think of Trump's self-depiction as Pope?

On the other hand, you’ve got Washington state passing a law that requires priests to become mandatory reporters without an exception for confession, essentially making it illegal to keep the seal of confession. That is a direct attack on the church and something that Catholics should find truly offensive.

Sorry, if you confess to molesting your kid, you shouldn’t be able to hide behind your religion. Maybe god will forgive you in the afterlife, but here on earth in the United States of America, this is a crime for which you must answer, and anyone who knows of this atrocity must report it.

And if you tell your lawyer that they must turn you in as well, breaking lawyer-client confidentiality?

They said he couldn’t be Pope because he wasn’t of sound mind.

I'd love to see that. Very surprised. Good for them. Also that he isn't catholic or a cardinal, but appreciate that they were able to rule him out on a more basic fact.

I suspect my very Catholic grandmother and extended family will say it's blasphemy and a silly thing for him to do, but in the same breath they would make excuses for him or downplay it. Not even that would shake their loyalty to him.

My Catholic mother was appalled but laughed. He looks ridiculous.

yea, a man who's had 3 wives, multiple affairs, a couple with porn stars, convicted of sexual assault, would make a fine pope.

This seems to come up very often and yes, of course we would prefer that Trump act more dignified, not fall for flattery so easily, and not have been such a womanizer in the past. But the fact that he is not that person doesn't mean we'd be happy with Kamala Harris running the country.

This statement is not popular in the DMV but it perfectly sums up how many Americans feel my family included. Our family moved out of the DMV five years ago but my job is still based there so I interact with coworkers daily and it is amazing how different reactions are outside of DC.

The mental gymnastics here is amazing.

Agree! I’m sure pp would also vilify Harris if she had AI dress herself up like the pope.

Remember the Gretchen Whitmer Eucharist controversy?

Yes, I’ve said this in the political forum, and again with the asmr video: he is daring people to not support him, and every time he pushes the boundary, they continue to do so. That’s why people say it’s a cult. Trumpism has been studied, look it up on Wikipedia.

This is exactly what’s going to be our country’s downfall. If you are appalled, laughing is not the answer.

He’s trolling.

YOU wouldn't be happy, because you lack decency and critical thinking skills, but our democracy, our government, our economy, and our relationships with important allies would be intact. You would have the luxury of complaining about the absolute BS you think is important while competent people remained at the helm. Instead you are cheering the destruction of America and all it stood for, gleefully watching it burn down.

You suck and you are stupid. I hope the catastrophe that you voted for hits you hard. You deserve that.

Because most Americans truly are ignorant and gullible. Standing by and either cheering or shrugging while the Trump administration follows the Authoritarian Handbook 101. Pathetic and infuriating.

This assessment is completely spot on. Any Catholic should be infuriated for the reasons she is talking about. Any Catholic that supports Trump has shown they don't really believe.
