Catholics: What do you think of Trump's self-depiction as Pope?

I'm inept at embedding tweets, but I thought this was a really interesting (Catholic) take on it:

Yep, I was just saying to DH how truly Trumpism is a cult, and he is leading his followers over a moral cliff.

I guess it shouldn't amaze me how much his followers will excuse the most grossest of his behaviors.

"I could shoot someone on 5th ave and not lose support". How correct he was. He knows his base.

The most pro-Trump, Dems-are-Communists person I know is also outspokenly (as in, I send my kid to Catholic school to avoid woke libs) Catholic.

Yet not a peep. Even though there would have been moral outrage if anyone else had done the same thing. It's bananas.

I'm sure a lot of politicians have been horrible people but at least they knew to not do something like this. The fact that the president of the United States can now proudly do crap like this just shows that the average American is beyond hope.

I agree but thought his Easter message was more offensive. His whole platform and personality is “I can offend whoever I want. No one can ever say word 1 about me though.”

I'm a lapsed Catholic and the fact that the President himself put this out on social media is totally what we should expect. The Catholics I know love him to bits and embrace his every utterance (well, the non-Hispanic ones anyway).

This cartoon is an example of how Trump dunks on his friends. He does this to show his followers that he owns them. It's a very important message and one that he wants amplified as much as possible.

Focus on things that matter; I’m Catholic and I know this doesn’t matter and is small bore of what anti-Christian actions he undertakes

It matters -- look what happened in Canada with the vote -- and in Australia too. I don't think it was an anti-christian move. It was a power move, trying to show that he is as powerful as the Pope with Catholics.

In fact, none of the Catholics I know voted for him. My mother who is beyond religious — Catholic HS and college, Sodality, St Vincent volunteer, Eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, dozens of crosses and large paintings of virgin through house, weekly mass, daily novenas and rosaries, regularly hosted priests at our house growing up, best friend was a nun, etc etc —- thinks he is the most disgusting, morally offensive person she has ever encountered. My father, rest in peace, agreed. It’s just such a depressing statement about the church that any Catholic could have voted for him, especially this time around. He whole platform is “screw other people, then make a joke about it.”

My relative is a nun, and no one in the convent voted for him.

Real Catholics don’t vote for him.

Catholics who have made money a false god do.

And Trump's VP is a Catholic convert!

Did Trump even post it? I thought it was one of his gazillion retweets

Yea, he called one of his followers fat at a rally thinking he was an agitator, and the fat guy's response was, "well, yea, I'm fat". If some liberal called him fat, he'd sit on them.

"Sir, may I have another" -MAGA.

I'm such a traditionalist that I have to admit that Pope Donald would be a return to form for the Roman Church, returning to the grand tradition of the Medici family, who generously supplied four popes to the Church in the space of 100 years.

Maybe this person is stewing internally. Let's hope

On the other hand, you’ve got Washington state passing a law that requires priests to become mandatory reporters without an exception for confession, essentially making it illegal to keep the seal of confession. That is a direct attack on the church and something that Catholics should find truly offensive.

Sorry, if you confess to molesting your kid, you shouldn’t be able to hide behind your religion. Maybe god will forgive you in the afterlife, but here on earth in the United States of America, this is a crime for which you must answer, and anyone who knows of this atrocity must report it.

I know many Catholics. I even married one. But you’re misquoting here, fwiw.
