Kansas State University

We like small towns for the college experience. Is the town KU in cuter? I am really just looking for first hand experience on Kansas State or...KU.

KU is more artsy than K State. I also think Manhattan is more fun than Lawrence. I can speak more to K State, which is a R1 school. The football games are a blast. The kids have fun. It isn’t a university that DCUMs approves of but you can get an excellent education there. A few years ago, the government moved its main biosecurity research to K State from New York. It’s a cute campus with happy kids. The dorms are ok. The dining halls are really nice. There is a pretty good Greek scene but it isn’t over the top like in the 1980s. There are liberals, conservatives, and MAGA on campus. Politics aren’t as widely discussed there as here in DC. The campus ice cream store is phenomenal and I visit any time I go to Manhattan! Don’t miss it if you take your daughter to tour. American Airlines flies into Manhattan regional airport (through Chicago or Dallas) 4 flights a day, IIRC.

Sorry your kid didn't get in.

It's literally next to impossible to not get accepted...your CC has to get declined when you try to apply. You have to try a little harder with your trolling.

A high acceptance rate does not mean a university provides a poor education.

A response to trolling is not trolling.

Most land grant universities have a high acceptance rate because it is why they were created. I don’t get DCUM sometime for all their claims to intelligence and world sophistication, there seem to be many on here who do not understand the land grant concept.

DC has a number of the schools posted a few pages back on their safety/rolling list - big state schools, fun atmosphere, great program for their intended major and affordable.

Will give them some acceptances in pocket during this crazy admissions process.

There is nothing wrong with any of these schools.

OP good luck to your student!

I'm from Kansas and have many friends who went to K-State. I think your DD could be happy at K-State. They really try to provide a great undergrad experience.

Here is a good article.

I got news for you: you live in a MAGA country. Trump won, by a lot (and no, I didn’t vote for him).

Kansas really isn’t Maga central anymore than the rest of the US. Lawrence, KS (where KU is locate ) is very cute and KU has a nice reputation.

People are actually moving to “maga-central” and flyover countries places and liking it. The latest area to become trendy and have a real estate boom: Bentonville, AR. Yep, where WalMart has its headquarters and about 30 miles from Fayetteville (University of Arkansas). Young families (including many democratic ones) are flocking there. Google it and stop being a snob.

I had talked to my son about applying to the University of Arkansas. The conversation revolved around the fact that northwest Arkansas is booming because of Walmart, Tyson Foods and JB Hunt.

If the only reason you are interested in KSU is merit aid for your kid, then pick 10 of these 90%+ acceptance flagships and apply and see where the dollars come out.

Then go visit a bunch and make a decision.

This. DH went to KSU, but mainly because he was from Kansas. It's fine, but so are many state universities elsewhere. People may be perplexed why your kid decided to go there from so far away.

You can pretty much get the same experience at VA Tech if you can be admitted.

How is this even relevant since clearly VA Tech would be considered if it was even a remote possibility. And what is wrong with spreading your wings to somewhere new ?

Kansas State is fine, like I said.
Again, fellow students may be perplexed, if OP's kid isn't interested in agriculture or land grant type majors and flies all the way out to Kansas to go there.

They do have a delicious dairy program and an ice cream shop on campus, highly recommend.

DC is doing the BA/DVM program and is very happy. Would never consider K-State otherwise.
