+1. Trump voter here, but happy to vacation Up North to take advantage of the plummeting Canadian Dollar. Good times!

Can you explain why you think this is a good thing?

Pp thinks they are taking advantage of Canada by vacationing here. Let's just go with it.

No one is buying those anymore. Newsome excluded Tesla from electric vehicle credits.

Tesla is about done. Their board of directors is offloading all the shares.

I read Elon's brother is selling off shares too. Who is buying them??

Not many people, it’s the institutional investors and the meme lords. The institutional investors will get out when the time is right for them, which will probably be soon. Bargains will appear in the market in real companies and they can unload.

TSLA is sinking like a stone. Down from $425 a few weeks ago to $280 yesterday.

I don't know why it still even that high. Who is buying Teslas now? Everyone hates Musk except for MAGA people who also hate EVs.

Right. What if a his target market now?

I genuinely don't think he cares about Tesla anymore. His new payment platform on X is going to rake in billions of dollars. That and sucking up as many government contracts as he can are his focus right now. (And why he is destroying the most relevant regulators for payment apps.) He also seems obsessed with the idea that America "needs" to have a recession, so driving us into one is another focus. I agree with Jeff's post that because Musk has lots of loans (LOTS), he's probably very concerned about interest rates, and so driving them down makes sense as rationale for attempting to dismantle much of the government. (No reasonable person believes he cares about government efficiency, so let's drop that pretense.)

And why is Congress sitting back letting one man destroy the country to serve his personal business interests?

Because Putin does?

Because it's a democracy?

Trump has threatened to invade six countries now. But he wants to get rid of nuclear weapons.

Canada? - Same reason as Ukraine and Greenland. We are rich in rare minerals, particularly nickel, which Trump wants to get his tiny hands on. (Ontario is planning to stockpile it rather than export it to the US until the tariffs are removed.)

And because he is a felon, he stupidly thinks taking something by force is "better" than peaceful economic fair trade.

Because they’re willing to sacrifice their grandchildren’s livelihood over siding with the Democrats.

Or, because they’re simply really evil people.

He's trying to grab the world by the pu$$y and the world laughs and punches him in the tiny man bits.

Anonymous wrote:The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on unjustified U.S. tariffs against Canada:

“Today, after a 30-day pause, the United States administration has decided to proceed with imposing 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian exports and 10 per cent tariffs on Canadian energy. Let me be unequivocally clear – there is no justification for these actions.

“While less than 1 per cent of the fentanyl intercepted at the U.S. border comes from Canada, we have worked relentlessly to address this scourge that affects Canadians and Americans alike. We implemented a $1.3 billion border plan with new choppers, boots on the ground, more co-ordination, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. We appointed a Fentanyl Czar, listed transnational criminal cartels as terrorist organizations, launched the Joint Operational Intelligence Cell, and are establishing a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force on organized crime. Because of this work – in partnership with the United States – fentanyl seizures from Canada have dropped 97 per cent between December 2024 and January 2025 to a near-zero low of 0.03 pounds seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“Canada will not let this unjustified decision go unanswered. Should American tariffs come into effect tonight, Canada will, effective 12:01 a.m. EST tomorrow, respond with 25 per cent tariffs against $155 billion of American goods – starting with tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods immediately, and tariffs on the remaining $125 billion on American products in 21 days’ time. Our tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. trade action is withdrawn, and should U.S. tariffs not cease, we are in active and ongoing discussions with provinces and territories to pursue several non-tariff measures. While we urge the U.S. administration to reconsider their tariffs, Canada remains firm in standing up for our economy, our jobs, our workers, and for a fair deal.

“Because of the tariffs imposed by the U.S., Americans will pay more for groceries, gas, and cars, and potentially lose thousands of jobs. Tariffs will disrupt an incredibly successful trading relationship. They will violate the very trade agreement that was negotiated by President Trump in his last term.”

Trudeau doesn’t get to decide. Trump does. His Order, his tariffs. Good on him.

Nah. Two can play that game. Lights out for large parts of Michigan, North Dakota and Wisconsin as they depend on Canada electricity

The energy exchange map is fascinating. It's almost entirely red states that depend on Canada.
The import map showing each state's top import partner by percentage of total imports shows the tariffs are even more devastating for red states. MT, ND, and ME look like they practically are Canadian.

That's an excellent question. We should ask them, again and again and again. And vote them out.

Canada will pass reciprocal tariffs. Then farmers will have to sell more in America, lowering food prices.

They can't afford it. This will destroy farmers.

Since when has a trade war resulted in lower prices? Please give concrete examples.

I really hope Canada's retaliatory tariffs are targeted and aim to significantly hurt the red states that voted for this mess. Let's the MAGA, who wanted everyone else to suffer, suffer the consequences.

Moreover, probably won't happen, but I do hope Canada imposes 100% tariffs on Tesla and bans X, to inflict maximum pain on Musk.

Wishful thinking, but would be good if China also shuts down the Gigafactory to further put pressure on Elon until tariffs are lifted (after all, China does own the land that the factory is built on). If that (coupled with Canada 100% Tesla tariffs) happens, that will tank the Tesla stock price, significantly reduce Elons wealth, and ensure that he gets margin called on his loans.

Too bad there is not some type of system or “world” market that you could buy these rare minerals or nickel. Why won’t Canada sell those to us?

Trudeau is telling it like it is. Its too bad most of the American media ignores speeches like that one.
