The market is not buying Trump's retreat anymore. Confidence is gone.

Can't say I'm surprised.

How much does Canada tariff us? I bet it’s a lot.

All tariffs imposed by Canada or Mexico (Prior to January 20, 2025) are established by the USMCA. That is the trade agreement negotiated and signed by Don "The Con" Trump after he withdrew from NAFTA.

What do we glean from this? Only what we have forever known. If a Trump gives you their word, they just handed you a pile of sh*t.

??? Why the distraction?

How much does Canada tariff the USA?

What are the numbers? And why do they refuse to have free trade?

Canadian here. Why does the US spend billions in agricultural subsidies to farmers, which impacts the price of exports? Why can't the US have free trade?

I think all countries with Farms subsidize farmers for national (and world) security. The land needs to be profitable in droughts and market disruptions so it remains arable and maintains its ability to feed the populations along with the means/systems of food production being maintained.

A honest breakdown of all these tariffs/vat taxes/regulatory impediments/currency manipulation and subsidies would be helpful.

Trump is totally right about one thing…Tariffs on the worlds largest consumer market is an unbelievably awesome tool. When China pulls its currency manipulation / dumping tricks you just raise the tariff 10 percent. When they stop you lower the tariff. You can adjust them instantly

What a bunch of Bullsh#t. Trump is just punishing Canada. To think or say that Trump is doing this as some type of policy for better economic gains is idiotic.

It’s to return our manufacturing base for a real tax base and trade balance. The USA economy is a basket case with the highest debt, deficit and trade deficit in the world by an exponential amount. When we were awarded the reserve currency we had the biggest surpluses in all those areas. We even import defense needs from China. The country is weak at its core and Trump is working on fixing it.
What are you talking about?? You think taxing Canada, our friendly neighbor, will fix our economy? Maybe take away tax cuts from the billionaires...

They tax us. We pay for their defense they use the savings for free healthcare and maternity leave.

We need the money back

Canadians pay a third of their salary to the government, and are taxed on every item they buy. Canadians pay for their own healthcare.

It's just stock market insider trading by Trump and his cronies. They know when the market is going to rise and fall in response to tariff announcements. They must be making a killing.

FALSE. Just on Mexico.

Ok. When I first read it here in Canada, it said for both.

If the tariffs were about border security or auto-plant jobs, logic says that the tariffs would be lifted on Canada over Mexico. Apparently that isn't what tariffs are about... :who knew:

They never had anything to do with the border. That was just excuse #1.

Canada needs to slap back hard, and not back down.

Mexico has been much more cooperative and less confrontational than Governor Trudeau. Logic would dictate you work with Mexico first.

Why don't people (mostly MAGA ) understand this?? Trump negotiated and signed that deal. The deal he is now breaking.

How the hell does he get to just say "this is not good, it's very unfair" and ignore it? WHY is nobody holding him accountable?

Fellow Canadian. Agree. It’s bewildering why many Americans don’t see through his lies, or choose not to.

In my case, it’s because I don’t know how — beyond boycotts and protesting. My state representatives are fighting this — but many of our systems are winner-takes all, and our checks and balances suck right now.

Seriously, if you have ANY practical suggestions, I would welcome them. How can a minority member of a minority-at-the moment “hold him accountable “ in ways that are likely to be effective?

Would love to know what that lemming thinks Canada should do...they are not the ones who violated the trade agreement Trump himself set up...

Haven’t read the whole bread, but you can’t go down in history as a great imperialist ruler unless you take over some land!

Canada is still not going to stock American alcohol. CEO Lawson Whiting needs to take his complaints to Trump because they are his fault. Wait till the UK starts boycotting American products. If you want isolationism, then you get isolationism. You sell your products to Americans, who may or may not have the $$ to buy them due to Trump's tanking the economy.

Hopefully all Provinces that pulled US liquor stick to it. I have my doubts.

I’m in Ontario and the two LCBOs I popped my head into today were restocking the normal US shelves with all kinds of Canadian and other countries products. There’s notes everywhere about why. They’re not even going to leave space open. Give it a few weeks, people will find out how many awesome distillers wer have here, and there won’t even be a shelf for US product to come back to.

Just like the soybean market Trump gave to Brazil on his first round.

Yup, I said on here weeks ago he will not be able to pull it back. Until Trump/Vance leave DC, we will have instability in the markets and internationally.

So just a stereotypical bully, with the maturity level of an 8 year old. Yeah that's something to be proud of.

What's next... stealing lunch money? Pulling down someone's pants and saying "jokes!" Stuffing people into lockers?

I agree those type things happened to many liberal men when they were kids. Those things are very wrong. Problem is that those men are now damaged and poor leaders.

It reeks of desperation on DCUM the last couple of days.
