American tourists in Canada

I just saw a post on FB (Meanwhile in Canada) suggesting people be extra nice to US visitors, you are escaping hell and supporting our economy.

I really don't think you're going to have an issue. Why would MAGAs come to Canada? They don't think we have anything to offer.

Enjoy your travels.

Well I’m a MAGA and I’m planning to visit Canada this summer. I’ll probably keep my opinions to myself though.

Why would you change? It’s your god given right to hate other people.

Accent? Attitude? They may share skin color but they're not homogeneous.

Eh, when I’m in Toronto and Ottawa I don’t notice an accent among locals. It’s a mixed bag in Montreal—plenty don’t have accents and speak English.

And plenty of Canadians are tourists in the local hotels and area restaurants.

Lmaooooo you must only travel to Toronto or Vancouver if you think Americans can pass for Canadians. The accent??? Hello??? I’m canadian from Vancouver and I don’t have an accent but travel to Saskatchewan and you’ll tell the difference. What a bizarre thing to say.

Forgot to mention that you must not leave the hotel or your meetings because Ottawa is a bilingual city and many people have thick French accents, plus anglophones have accents vs Toronto or Vancouver. Wow. Please visit Canada properly before commenting. That’s like saying there’s no different between people in California and North Carolina.

Most of the rest of the world is appalled and angry at the US right now, so it won't be that much better in other places either.

Car license plates if you drive.

Other signs - Canadians often:

- sport Canadian flags all over their luggage and backpacks when they travel …

- add a friendly “eh” at the end of questions and even plain sentences;

- are quick to say sorry while many Americans seem to regard offering apologies as equivalent to slow painful deaths (but to be fair are also quick to say apologies are not needed);

- usually speak French and even their English has an accent (in Quebec anyway);

- are more liberal in general (universal health care/ no bans on abortion/ marijuana is legal/ GTLBQ+ have powerful rights); and

- are much less likely to identify as religious (except about ice hockey).

To me as a non American and non Canadian it is usually easy to see and hear the difference when I meet them both. I like them both and they both have their quirks, like the rest of us.

I know that's a stereotype but to me it's a total myth! Granted, I mostly know people from Quebec, but they are not polite at all, rude even. Meanwhile I say sorry ALL the time (too much, trying to stop)

I mean, it’s Quebec. Even Canadians think the quebecois are rude.

Why would you assume Americans are any of this? Anyway, I personally wouldn't go - we're doing Seattle and Charleston instead. No interested in spending time around people who hate me (or even believe they do).

Of course you have an accent. Every person in the world has an accent. If we plonk you in the middle of Sydney or Edinburgh or Dublin, will locals say you have an accent. Yep.

I can't believe people are worried about this. I saw an airport sign posted that said that Canadians should be extra nice to American tourists because they're visiting Canada from a very difficult environment back home.

Non Canadian and American who enjoys both places and peoples - Canadians don’t hate Americans: they don’t appreciate the guy trying to annex them as the 51st state but they don’t hate Americans in general. This crazy proposal never came up during the election campaign so it is. It something even a slim majority of Americans voted for …

That sounds very Canadian. Which airport was this?
