OP here. I am concerned for our country's tweens/teens (not just my own). I am genuinely trying to help. I made a mistake by saying Twitter. I should have proof-read before hitting send. I apologize for my mistake.

I definitely have teens, and definitely have social media. My DH is on Twitter/X constantly (unfortunately), reading an absurd amount about political issues, which is a complete waste of time. And my DD in college posts on Instagram. (She has fortunately made her account private now that she's searching for internships.)

I can understand if my mistake (saying Twitter instead of TikTok) seemed odd, and I agree with you. But trust me, I'm just a mom who cares about the next generation. I don't post on Instagram, but I have an account. I post occasionally on Facebook. I spend too much time on social media myself, TBH. Fortunately I work full-time and so am busy 9-7, unlike teens.

You said in your original thread “all 3 of my kids are active in multiple sports, volunteer work, school band/orchestra, and go to/went to well-regarded private schools.” So what exactly are you concerned about?

My son said everyone is just using the app that’s directly run by the CCP — he said the Chinese name which I’ve now forgotten but I think it translate to red door or something? (Or is that a spa?).
I applaud you people that are able to control what your teens do. My teens know what I think about all this stuff and we talk about skeptical consumption of media, but they have excellent computer programming skills and my skills are limited to “if I reboot my computer, maybe that irritating thing will go away.” So I have really never been able to put controls on their tech access. It’s like trying to hold back the river with my two hands. I’m treating it like sex — I don’t pretend I can control what they do but I can lecture them constantly about safety and values and hope 10% of what I’m saying sinks in far enough that they make some decent decisions.
