| My daughter loved CNU. She found it to be friendly, sporty and social. It also prepared her for a top notch graduate program. |
say what you will but as a hiring manager, I triage Liberty applicants and everybody with an online degree. |

I don't know, I didn't get straight up bigotry from the post. My daughter looked at schools of all sizes, and there definitely are schools (mostly on the smaller side) that lean heavily artsy and probably wouldn't be a great fit for a kid that just wasn't into those things.
These schools were fine for my child because she was applying as a performing arts major. She wound up at a small LAC that has a huge arts community. |
OP Here. I appreciate this feedback. CNU is now on our list to visit. |
Not for people who want to avoid artsy/emo types. |
| There are no "underrated gems." Full stop. |

DP. You know exactly what the OP is talking about. Just as some students want to avoid large sporty schools, others have no interest in quirky/artsy places. We’re all allowed our specific preferences. |
| My child is at CNU and is on a rec sports team, in Greek life, has a huge on-campus apartment, is doing well in their classes, has a car, works on-campus a few hours a week. |
Lol, your insecurity is on full display. The funny part is that I don't think the JMU people care!

DP. You don’t need to explain to the PP (or anyone else). No doubt that PP’s kid has his/her own preferences. I am a UMW alumnus from the late 80s (when it was still MWC). I absolutely loved my time there - but the school has changed so much. It used to be very mainstream (though still no football team). It has morphed into a very quirky place, one that my own kids had no interest in - and I don’t blame them. They also wanted JMU, VT, etc. |
PP. Different strokes for different folks. Also, it's funny how our DCs can be so opposite of us. So you probably did a tour of VCU, like we did. As you were walking around, your DC was thinking these kids are too emo, mine was thinking how cool it was that everywhere were people who were like him (biracial/quirky). You said you were a quirky, literary family. My DH is a ginormous football fan and I went to UMCP which has an NCAA team for everything. Yet, here we are with our quirky kid. He would probably be appalled with my state flagship. FWIW, I second the idea of Christopher Newport. |
Are you the posters who just tore Liberty apart? Interesting lack of self-awareness you have. DP |
^^ Someone really needs to grow up. |
