You can tell who went to private and who went to public schools this way. My kid switched to private school in MS and was do happy to finally learn stuff (content). He learned about vague crap like communities for years in public ES.

It is when you are taught it every year for years. No map skills are taught. I’d be surprised if kids have any idea about directions or geography at all.

How are communities vague crap???? Understanding the concept of community is a key concept of both social studies and science that specific subjects build upon.

If your kid graduates from MCPs has absolutely no concept of directions or geography, know that is because they were not paying attention in classes and you didn’t bother to help them any.

My point /s is that people's lives can be impacted by people and places they are ignorant of. The case for geographic literacy rests on the knowledge being necessary to be an informed citizen (of your town, state, nation, world). If you don't spend any time or focus on US geography, I think it's a consensus that your education is lacking. Yes, you can look it up, but it's not that heavy a lift to know all the US states so you can understand presidential election politics, our legislature, etc.

Basic civics is lacking in education system. New voters are coming into the scene too. Geography needs to be a part of lessons.
