| I don't know if I'd be able to get all 50 without a map in front of me (not filled in, just a map with lines). |

Fifty Nifty: https://youtu.be/Q5BsyfLT9yo?feature=shared
My kids covered it in music class Animaniacs: https://youtu.be/bx6c_EefZAQ?feature=shared We did it at home along with other things. |
North Korea, North Dakota, whatever… I will say I never learned the states in school 50 years ago. |
How are communities vague crap???? Understanding the concept of community is a key concept of both social studies and science that specific subjects build upon. |
|
We just had a major national election. This is 100% on you.
|
| My kid hasn't eaten in a week because I didn't tell her to. Another shameful hole to plug in our school system m |
Do you compute the electoral college by hand, from memory? |
Maybe your kid isn't paying attention or studying, or is a slower developer, or has some learning disability |
| My kids did all the stuff mentioned here. The app, the map, the song, pictures on the wall. Guess what? They still forgot it all because it's not important to their lives. People learn things if and when they matter. |
| Wondering if I can recite the states? Do we need to be able to recite them or just be familiar with the map? GO ahead and learn the song if reciting is important. I think discerning some of those square states is the bigger challenge. |
My kid learned this in 4th grade and has NOT stopped singing it. So while it's great she knows all the states in alphabetical order, I also want to cry a little every time I hear her go "Alabama Alaska..." |
Yes. I do want to give my kid a map and she what she can label. There's much less rote memorization in school these days. But it does mean parents need to fill in some logic gaps. |
We are a faithful public school family. We are just curious types that's all. |

| As others have said, do most of the educating at home |
