Could Trump's victory lead to saner DC crime policy?

Correction the battle is between self-serving taxpayer-dependent corrupt folks with no skills and what you said.

He knows the criminal mind and what deters it.

Probably the same day he pardons those who attacked them on Jan 6.

I'm not sure that applies. Nothing seems to deter him.

I think you can see things get less safe, I would expect some capitol police to quit rather than work near his White House.

That's objectively untrue though. Crime was relatively low in the 2010s. After covid eroded social norms and progressives became convinced that prosecuting crime is racist, violence exploded. Matthew Graves has gotten better but he only prosecuted 33% of crimes in 2023. Crime and anti-social behavior are worse now than under Trump.

+ a million.

Murders in 2019 were 150 or so, last year it was nearly double.

There were 116 in 2017, Trump's first full year. I thought he was tough on crime?

Trump had increasing murders in DC EVERY YEAR he was President and his appointees ran the USAO:
2017: 116
2018: 160
2019: 164
2020: 200

Crime literally went up the entire time Trump was President when his prosecutors and judges were running the show.

Psst: That's not what Trump thinks of as crime. Peaceful protesters are the criminals.

Anonymous wrote:Yes, of course it will. It makes him look good. Rising crime under Dems, new DC USAO will not be wasting time on January 6th but instead locking up US citizen thugs and sending non-US citizen thugs back.

Crime rose in DC under Trump's last term. He's not planning to go after people who violate actual laws that are the books; he going after political "enemies within" who violate his loyalty to the King demands.

You heard that phrase and decided it meant what you wanted it to mean, but you didn't listen to what he is actually going after.

While I doubt the GOP will repeal home rule and take over DC's juvenile crime policy, can we at least expect Trump's US Attorney for DC to actually take violent crime seriously (unlike Matthew Graves)? Can we expect the District to get safer under Trump? Or is this wishful thinking?

All true. Many career prosecutors at USAO are lax on crime, the guy who beat his 5 year old to death was released w/o even an ankle monitor. Judge mentioned, USAO said not requesting. Not going to get better.

The office is staffed by DOJ and judges are appointed for long terms, only the USA is a current Presidential appointee.

So this federal judicial staff, which was here under Trump, is causing the problem and posters are blaming the District of Columbia? And thinking Trump will fix it this time?

Why did murders in DC increase by 72% over the course of Trump’s previous time in office?

Yes, thankfully it could.

Muriel is scared. She’s out seeking money and support to fight him already.

Because Trump was hands off with Muriel Bowser during his first term. He made the mistake of trying to work with her.

When he talks about “taking advice from the wrong people” in his first term, I’m sure she’s one of the people he’s thinking of.

He needs to put juvenile crimes under the USAO and do some culling of the Superior Court and DCCA benches.

I am and here’s why: I don’t want to see this group steel any more $$$ or patronize any more citizens. It started when ATVs and mopeds would keep us awake and the MPD could do nothing under the recent no chase. Nadeau laughed at the concerns. When Allen recall failed is when I made up my mind. When they put 2 felons on my recent electoral ballot is when I decided by any means necessary.

If the Council can be fully different with us having passed 83, then I will change my mind.

Guess what? 73% of the citizens agree that the Council is not fit to any purpose other than to collect their paychecks. I could care less about Trump and what he’ll do but I want to see this Council gone.
