I’d be willing to bet a paycheck that one of Trump’s first EOs is ordering the executive agencies back to the office at pre-pandemic levels. That’s an easy call.

I am ok with that as long as I have a job!

Same. The bar is so low at this point!

Well I doubt they will get rid of BLS because most economic policy from the Fed is based on their data.

Project 2025 has them joining Census and BEA as part of Commerce.

They’re already moving out with those agencies.

Thank goodness I didn’t get the SES job I was up for. I’ll be fine hanging out as a GS. I plan to kiss up to the trumpies. Honestly working for them last time was super easy. They were a breeze compared to what we’ve had the past fours years. They have no clue how to run an agency and didn’t have much of a desire to do much if anything. We’ll just coast for the next four years. I’m looking forward to it honestly.

So we will be sitting on the floor.? Ok if that is what you want.

Did a lot of agencies/offices give up space? Ours didn’t and we’ve had tons of empty space, being heated and air conditioned to the hilt, for years. A very small number of us come in 1x a week, otherwise it’s a ghost town.

Don’t know about lots, but our agency HQ gave up 1/3rd of its space and hired more people (esp contractors) so yeah, if we RTO then lots of people have to share offices which will decrease both morale and efficiency at no savings to the government.

They would want to remove career civil servants and install cronies and let the pillaging begin. Inspector general officers going first.

Oh, yes, this is going to happen. Y'all don't seem to be aware of the purges last time. Those who replaced them are larger in number and the purges will be too. Good employees will lose jobs to make room.

Where? Nothing happened last time at my agency.

You are assuming business as usual, this is not 2016. The Musk efficiency commission goal is to gut the government. They don’t care about the consequences and if nothing gets done that is the point. Musk will study it for like 2 weeks and then take an axe to agencies. If they have the trifecta then they can pass a law authorizing mass firings (house is still in play).

There were purges last time - two agencies at USDA were moved from DC to Kansas City which resulted in 85-90 percent of the employees resigning. It was most certainly a purge. And no one could stop them.

Musk has autism and severe ADHD. He’s really not going to focus on any of this for more than 5 minutes. They will take some sort of symbolic streamlining - a bunch of retirements from people who are already retirement-eligible and firing people who are not adhering to RTO - and call it a win.

And then life goes on.

These guys are really into symbolism and bombast.

Same reason why I don’t think Trump will roll back CHIPS Act or Infrastructure bill - there are 10,000 projects and he gets to smile next to a giant sign that says “This chip foundry brought to by PRESIDENT TRUMP.” He could spend all four years doing photo ops next to these signs; it’s his favorite part of the job.

100% Symbolism. Bombast. Showmanship. Photo-ops. Vendetta settling. That's the next four years. I hope all the people who got sold the story will pay attention and keep track of the promises that were made and not kept.

I interviewed with an agency and asked them if administrations differ: they seemed surprised by the question and let me know that things were easy under Bush but that they had to work their butts off under Obama.

My agency gave up office space in HQ and moved to smaller footprints outside of DC. I moved from DC for my husband’s job and worked a few days a week from a field location. That location moved further away and I reduced how often I went in. I would have to quit or move if I were required to go daily - I’m not spending 3 hours a day commuting!

USDA itself is an agency, so it was been two offices/divisions/whathaveyou that were moved. Same with Dept of Interior.

But if it was to be called a "purge" it was a very small one.

No, USDA is a Department. The Department of Agriculture. ERS and NIFA were two Agencies within the Department of Agriculture.
