If I were financially set for life, I’d retire at 60 too. As an older single mom, she should enjoy her kids and bank money for trust funds. She could move to the fancy burbs and live like a Queen.

People don't appreciate what a grind it is to working the morning show 5 days a week. If she lives in the suburbs, that means her alarm probably goes off at 3am to head downstairs to meet her driver.

Sure, she's got a ton of money but it doesn't buy you time. And she seems really into her family. Good for her.

I was also surprised when I got a breaking news alert from NYTimes on my iphone about her leaving.

But then once you think about how this show is a cash cow for NBC any change in the host can have real ramifications on the show's ratings. Its a big risk when the host leaves. NBC mornings is neck and neck with ABC for ratings, but NBC leads in the coveted 25-54 demographic. Her leaving a major blow for NBC.

I doubt they low balled her. NBC execs don't want to rock the boat unless the ratings are in the gutter and they are shaking up the whole team. Right now they are treading water in 1st place.

She's old. Plenty of people retire at 60. It's not like she's a 40 year old deciding to retire.

dp And how old are you, pp? I think age is very relative and I don't think 60 is as old as I used to. There are plenty of things a 60 year old can do. I think it will be interesting when you approach that age whether you will be so dismissive

Never watched Today with Hoda and whoever.

Used to watch Today. Decent with Katie Couric and Matt. Liked it when Ann Curry but stopped watching after they fired her. Read at the time her Q rating was better than Matt’s when solo, and his improved when she was on with him. Matt’s ego couldn’t handle it and got her fired. I have often wondered if he got rid of her cause she was suspicious of his behavior. Never know. Mistake to get rid of her. Today show is now just an entertainment tonight except in the morning.
