St Johns college is the third oldest college in America and is unknown by most. It is a regional school with a little importance in American history but nothing groundbreaking. |
Ricky Bobby famously said: "If you ain't first, you're last." |
|
Yale is actually the third oldest. St. John’s was founded much later, but it absorbed a much older school. Plus, it. is very niche and I think it gets confused with the basketball-oriented St. John’s in New York. |
According to a PP, no one outside of Virginia knows of William & Mary, yet the Steely Dan guys, who came from NY and NJ, put it in their song "My Old School". Neither attended William & Mary. They attended Bard. |
I think of the same about William & Mary as someone not from here tbh. The only time I've ever heard about the university was a peer super into American History said it was a "very good school," but, otherwise, zilch. It has very little national presence. |

Haters hate.

That's like saying Hampshire is a household name, because a Colby graduate mentioned it. |
| William and Mary was featured prominently in a Bob Newhart episode. WM has a fair number of writers who go to Hollywood, so references show up here and there. This is pretty funny for WM fans. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x57sua2?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2jHm2VC8t7cd4D10_ZJTYHkiAiH2Oc_Eezc5mNm8lF4kGNSBz71R0nXrw_aem_0rOrt5MnMiQtRVfK23YO9g |
| I don't know if DCUM has a lot of W&M grads, but you guys know it's okay for a decent but not great school to just be decent? W&M is a decent school, nothing spectacular to write off about it but decent. How you think about W&M is how Alabaman's think of UA btw. |
a Bob Newhart episode you say? |
Apparently you could watch W&M play football on a Chicago TV station on Thanksgiving, so there must’ve been some national profile. |
OOOhh an unnamed Chicago TV station!!! |
I don't remember Colby or Hampshire in any songs. |
Well, that certainly speaks to their ignorance. And yours. |
